SENIOR COMPANION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEETING HELD JANUARY o 1 =94
MEMBERS PRESENT: See attached attendance roster .
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Gail Hanson moved and seconded by Pat
Hendricks that the minutes of November 2 , 1994 be approved as
printed. Motion carried.
ATTENDANCE: Pat Hendricks and Marie Parlington chose to let their
absence stand.
' DIRECTOR' S REPORT: There was no superintendent' s report due to the
absence of Cecilia Martinez.
INTRODUCTIONS : Marie Parlington was introduced as a new board
member.
SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM UPDATE: Ms. Garcia reported that an
unduplicated number on the November and December reports.
Ms. Garcia attended the National SCP Conference in Washington, D.C.
She circulated a badge the commemorates the 20th Anniversary.
These will be included in the gift pack given at the April
Recognition Banquet. Mary Johnson mention that she had seen an
article in the paper about the SCP which did not mention that there
is a local agency in town. Pat Hedricks will look into correcting
this. Ms . Garcia presented a very nice letter form Leroy Minor
from Action.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: It was announced that Lloyd Montrel , Chairman
of the Evaluation and Policy Committee had submitted his
resignation due to the fact that he is running for City Council .
Mary Johnson motioned, Gail Hanson seconded and the motion carried
to accept Mr. Montrel 's resignation.
Alicia Ruiz reported that the Recognition Committee had not met but
does have a scheduled meeting on -January 11 . 1994.
NEW _BUSINESS: Ms. Garcia reported that RTA has proposed to
increase rates for the seniors. Mary Johnson recommended \the this
board go before RTA to protest the increase. Ms. Garcia will set
up the meeting. Also Pat Hendricks would like to find out what the
rates are in other major cities. Ms. Garcia will look into this.
The Board reviewed the resume of Joanne Valdez. . It was motioned by
Alicia Ruiz and seconded by Mary Johnson that Ms . Valdez be
accepted as a member of the board. The motion carried. '

It was motioned by Pat Hendricks and seconded by Maria Gutierrez to
accept the January menu as written. The motion carried.
Mary Johnson commented that she would like to see this board work
on setting some long range goals for this program since the need
continues to grow.
Ms. Garcia announced that the non-profit status had been approved.
This will be discussed at the next meeting and a sub committee will
be appointed.
