SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE
JANUARY 5 , 1993
MEMBERS PRESENT: Delia Acuna, Diana Bell , Trinidad Benavides, Elda
Castillo, Alicia, Guzman, Gail Hanson, Wesley Hart, Mary Johnson, Tommie
Martinez, and Alicia Ruiz
Meeting was called to order by Alicia Ruiz.
Wesley moved and Trinidad seconded the motion that the minutes of the
November 3 meeting be approved. Motion carried.
Attendance: Trinidad Benavides asked that his absence from the November
meeting be allowed to stand.
Introduction of new Committee Member: Gail Hanson was introduced as a new
Committee member.
Coordinator's Report: Janie discussed the Placement Report, then reviewed
the OAVP Project Profile Survey which is to be submitted to ACTION. Some
highlights of the report are that the largest percentage of Companions are
between 60 and 69 years of age, the majority of whom are Hispanic females,
and that 35 trained volunteers are awaiting assignment.. The majority of
clients are 75 years of age and older and the service primarily provided by
Companions is that of social recreation or respite care.
Evaluation and Policy: Mary reported that thesub-committee has
consolidated results of the Annual Evaluation and will present it in
February.
Recognition and Fundraising: Janie reported that the FACS committeeis
working toward making distribution of the proceeds from the annual
barbeque.
Recruitment and Publicity: Janie reported that the Senior Companion
Program has been highlighted in Park and Recreation Department's
publication. She also reported that the requests for non-profit status and
for additional committee members are still being progressed through various
departments of the City's organization.
Adjournment: Diana moved and Elda seconded the motion that the meeting be
adjourned. Motion carried.
