REGULAR MEETING
MONDAY, JULY 12, 1993, 6:00 P.M.

I. CALL TO ORDER - The Monday, July 12, 1993 regular meeting of the Sister City
Steering Committee was held at the City Hall, Committee Room, 1201 Leopard St.
The meeting was called to order at 6:15 p.m. by Dr. Glen Kost, General Chairman.
II. ROLL CALL - Attendance was taken and a quorum was present.
III. ACTION ON MINUTES - Drue Combs motioned to accept the minutes of the June
7, 1993 meeting. Johnnie Norman seconded the motion and discussion was held.
The correction to section V.A. was made "Sluhan" and the minutes were
unanimously accepted as corrected.
IV. TREASURERS REPORT - Marion Loucks reported that the General Fund
operating budget is $6,384.27 and the Trust Fund is $2,182.81.
V. GENERAL COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Toledo. Spain - Mr. Fernando Iglesias reported that the Corpus Christi
student exchange representatives were set to travel to Spain, but that the
exchange of the Spain students to Corpus Christi was still not confirmed.
Michael Flores reported that Ms. Rose Sluhan from the Toledo, Ohio Sister
City Committee will visit Corpus Christi directly after the Sister City
International Conference in Houston, July 14 - 17, 1993. The Committee
agreed that an informal reception or dinner on July 19th be arranged in
honor of Ms. Sluhan's visit. Michael Flores to follow up with arrangements.
B. Germany - Fred Hoffmann reported that the German Society will host Ms.
Doreen Lender of Aukisgran, Germany on July 26th.
Dr. Glen Kost reported that an exchange program including students from
Munich and Frankfurt, Germany are scheduled to visit Corpus Christi during
the month of August. Dr. Kost suggested that these students be recognized
during their visit and possibly included in the Sister City student exchange
activities.
C. Student Exchange Activities - Mary Saenz gave an up-date on the
planned student activities for the 1993 Student Exchange Program.
D. Yokosuka. Japan - Ms. Combs reported that the Corpus Christi student
representatives are prepared to travel to Japan and that the Yokosuka
exchange program is also confirmed. .

E. Veracruz. Mexico - Marion Loucks, reporting for Mr. Ramon Lopez,
informed the committee that we are still awaiting confirmation on the
Mexican students to visit Corpus Christi, but that we have received a copy
of the planned activities for the Veracruz exchange. Ms. Loucks explained
that Mr. Ray Valdez has stepped in as liaison for the Veracruz program while
Mr. Lopez is out of the state.
F. PuYang. China - Marion Loucks reported that a delegation from PuYang,
China will visit Corpus Christi in September 1993. The committee agreed
to make appropriate arrangements to receive the delegation.
VI. CURRENT CONCERNS
Jose Torres requested clarification regarding the goals for the attending members
of the Sister City International Conference. Discussion was held.
VII. ACTION ON ABSENCES -Aurelio Valdez absent: 11/2; 12/7; 2/1; and 6/7. Lauro
Cuellar absent: 10/5; 4/5; 5/3; and 6/7. Nelida Ortiz absent: 9/14; 1/4; 5/3; and
6/7. Nelida Ortiz submitted her resignation effective immediately. Ray Valdez
submitted his resignation effective September 1993. Michael Flores motioned to
retain Lauro Cuellar's membership, to accept Ms. Ortiz's resignation, and to table
action on absences for Mr. Valdez. Fred Hoffmann seconded the motion and the
vote was unanimous.
IX. ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
