I. CALL TO ORDER - The Monday, October 3rd, 1994 Meeting of the Sister City
Steering Committee was held in the Committee Room of City Hall. The meeting was
called to order at 6:10 p.m. by Drue Combs, General Chairperson.
II. ROLL CALL - Attendance was taken and a quorum was present.
III. ACTION ON SEPTEMBER 12, 1994 MEETING MINUTES - Michael Flores
motioned to approve the minutes of the September 12, 1994 meeting. Joe Garcia
seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT - Marion Loucks reported that the--Trust fund was
$2,386.07, and the General Fund was $19,632.15.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. MONTERREY, MEXICO - Rudy Delgado reported that Mayor Rhodes has
been invited to attend the outgoing Monterrey Mayor's last State of the Union
Address on October 11, 1994, and was also invited to attend the inauguration of the
newly elected Mayor of Monterrey. Mr. Delgado announced that Monterrey is
interested in initiating an educational exchange with Corpus.Christi for language
training, or a student exchange.
B. TOLEDO, SPAIN - Michael Flores reported that a fax was received
announcing an upcoming visit by the Mayor of Aldeacentenera, Spain in November
1995. Mr. Flores explained that this visit has recently been postponed, but that
Aldeacentenera was interested in a professional exchange.
C. YOKOSUKA, JAPAN - Johnnie Norman reported that Corpus Christi
volunteer exchange representative,Vicki Villarreal arrived safely in Yokosuka,Japan
on October 2, 1994, and she will return to Corpus Christi on October 29, 1994. Ms.
Norman announced that the Yokosuka volunteer exchange representative is Yuko
Sakurai; a housewife and mother,interested in community development and quilting.
Ms. Norman reported that Ms. Sakurai will also arrive in Corpus Christi on October
C) 29, 1994. Ms. Norman requested additionalassistancein securing host families for
Ms. Sakuri's visit. Committee members volunteered to greet Ms. Sakuri at the
airport, and Christina Tinning volunteered to host her for the first week (October
29th through November 10th).

- of thirty three Yokosuka citizen representatives will visit Corpus Christi, October 7th
through 9th. Ms. Norman announced that their itinerary will include: a luncheon
hosted by the Sister City Committee; sight seeing of area attractions including the
Naval Air Station; and a dinner hosted by Mayor Sawada for Mayor Rhodes and
other city representatives on Saturday, October 8, 1994.
D. GERMANY-Drue Combs reported that letters,prepared by Ms.Edna Brown
and the local German Society, have recently been sent to Rostock and Greifswald,
Germany, expressing Corpus Christi's interest in establishing a Sister City affiliation.
E. ISRAEL - Drue Combs reported that letters have been sent to two contact
persons in Rishon-Le-Zion, Israel expressing Corpus Christi's interest in establishing
a Sister City affiliation. Ms. Combs also reported that the local Jewish Community
Center has confirmed their support for an affiliation with a city in Israel.

F. PROJECTS - Michael Flores reported that the Projects Committee is ready
to begin preparing for the April 1995 golf tournament fund raising event.
G. EVALUATION - Drue Combs announced that the committee workshop (goal
setting and information from Sister Cities International Conference '94) would be
held at the Multicultural Center, Saturday, October 15 1994, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
VI. CURRENT CONCERNS:
A. SISTER CITY WRIST WATCH - The committee agreed to purchase thirty
custom wrist watches as gifts for visiting foreign delegates and guests. (The watches
will not be given to the exchange students in place of the cowboy hat.)
B. MEXICAN ART EXHIBITIONS - Rudy Delgado reported that a program,
sponsored by the Economic Development Corporation and the Mexican Consulate,
introducing Mexican art in Corpus Christi will begin, with the first in a series of
exhibitions, at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, May and June
1995. Mr. Delgado announced that host families will be needed for participating
Mexican curators and artists.
C. PROMOTION - Christina Tinning announced that she will speak to the
Civitan Club on October 25th regarding Sister City Committee programs and
promoting host family opportunities.
D. HOST FAMILIES - Rose Gunji recommended that assistance with
transportation be provided for participating host families.
VII. ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m., -Yi
