MONDAY, DECEMBER 5, 1994, 6:00 P.M.

I. CALL TO ORDER - The Monday, December 5th, 1994 meeting of the Sister City
Steering Committee'was held at the Multicultural Center in Heritage Park. The
meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Drue Combs, General Chairperson.
II. ROLL CALL - Attendance was taken and a quorum was present.
III. ACTION ON NOVEMBER 7, 1994 MEETING MINUTES - Jerry Barker requested
that the minutes be amended to. reflect his attendance at the November 7, 1994
meeting. Michael Flores motioned to approve the minutes of the November 7, 1994
meeting as corrected. Joe Garcia seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT - Marion Loucks reported that the Trust Fund was
$2,404.65, and the General Fund was $17,969.26 as of October, 1994.
V. VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP EXCHANGE REPORT - Vicky Villarreal, Corpus
Christi representative for the Volunteerism Internship Program,was present to report
on her visit to Yokosuka, Japan. Johnnie Norman reported on the volunteer
exchange program in Corpus Christi with Yokosuka representative, Yuko Sakurai.
Ms. Norman reported that Ms. Sakurai's visit was productive with her visiting and
working with over 22 agencies that utilize volunteers. Ms.Norman also reported that
Ms. Sakurai was able to schedule leisure time activities including a quilting show in
Houston. Ms. Combs recommended to participate in the program again next year.
VI. 1994 SISTER CITIES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE REPORTS - Committee
members, Drue Combs,Rose Gunji, Elida Gonzalez, and Fernando Iglesias (absent)
attended the 1994 Sister Cities International Conference in Louisville,Kentucky. Ms.
Combs, Ms. Gunji and Ms. Gonzalez expressed special interest regarding the
convention information that was given on fund raising, event promotions and
publicity, and children's programs. (The convention information is available for
review.)
• VII. DISCUSSION ON PRIORITIES FOR THE SISTER CITY COMMITTEE - The
committee reviewed a list of priorities that were previously ranked at the January 10,
1994 meeting. Committee members indicated a few priorities that could be
addressed immediately and those that would require staff investigation regarding
procedures. Rudy Delgado suggested that each committee member focus on specific
priorities and present discussion for these at the January 1995 meeting.

VIII. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. MONTERREY, MEXICO - Rudy Delgado reported that Ms. Julieta Pisanty
will continue as Sister City liaison for the City of Monterrey, Mexico under
the new administration. Mr. Delgado announced that Monterrey would like
to establish a student exchange program with Corpus Christi in 1995. The
committee agreed that further discussion and action regarding the Monterrey
student exchange program be scheduled for the January 1995 meeting.
B. TOLEDO, SPAIN - Michael Flores recommended to extend the Pen Pal
Program to include all Sister City affiliations. Mr. Flores reported that
discussions and plans continue for the art exhibition by Spanish artist, Charo
Misas, to Corpus Christi in late 1995.
Christina Tinning reported that Toledo, Spain has expressed a strong interest
in extending the student exchange program to one month for the Corpus
Christi students visiting Spain. Ms. Tinning inquired about the possibility of
arranging dates for the student exchange program based on each Sister City's
specific needs and availability.
C. YOKOSUKA,JAPAN-Johnnie Norman reported the dates for the Yokosuka,
Japan studentjs summer vacation. Ms.Norman also reported that Mr. Makoto
Aiso, Yokosuka's representative for the Overseas Dispatch Training Program
is scheduled to arrive in February 1995.
D. UKRAINE - No report given.
E. GERMANY - Drue Combs reported that Rostock has declined and that we
are waiting to hear from representatives in Griefswald.
F. PROJECTS - Michael Flores reported that the Projects Committee met on
November 22, 1994 to begin planning the 1995 golf tournament. Mr. Flores
reported that the dates of April 22 and April 29 are being considered for the
1995.tournament.
G. NEWSLETTER-John Marez, Committee Newsletter Editor,reported that he
needs information from the following committees: Monterrey, Athletics, and
Volunteerism. Deadline for information will be the end of December.
H. MEXICAN ART EXHIBIT- Rudy Delgado reported that the proposed dates
for the art exhibit from the State of Mexico are June 3 - July 23, 1995. Mr.
Delgado also reported that translators,and Corpus Christi host families may
be needed for the participating Mexican artists and curators.
IX. CURRENT CONCERNS: - None.
X. ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
