I. CALL TO ORDER - The Monday, February 6, 1995 meeting of the Sister City
Steering Committee was held in the Committee Room of City Hall. The meeting
was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Drue Combs, General Chairperson.
II. ROLL CALL - Attendance was taken and a quorum was present.
III. ACTION ON JANUARY 16, 1995 MEETING MINUTES - Minutes were approved
as received.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT .- Marion ..Loucks reported that the Trust Fund was
$2,404.65, and the General Fund was $16,871.93 as of January, 1995.
V. DISCUSSION ITEM:
A. Discussion regarding the initiation of a sister city affiliation with the City of
Agen, France. .
Fernando Iglesias introduced Martine Ann Balme, President of"Alliance Francias",
a local French speaking persons association. Ms. Balme expressed the association's
willingness to assist the Sister City Committee with efforts to initiate an affiliation
with Agen, France. Mr. Iglesias motioned to pursue a Sister City affiliation with
Agen, France. Joe Garcia seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
B. Recommendation by the Projects, Committee to dedicate a city park in honor of
the Sister Cities of Corpus Christi.
Michael Flores recommended that Palmetto Park, a city park on Ocean Drive, be
renamed in honor of Corpus Christi's sister city affiliates. Mr. Flores motioned that
the Sister City Committee present this recommendation to the Park and Recreation
Advisory Board and the City Council for their approval. (A specific name in honor
of the Sister City Program has not yet been selected). The motion was seconded by
Jose Torres, and the vote was unanimous.

VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. STUDENT ACTIVITIES Mary Saenz reported the dates for the scheduled
activities for the Corpus Christi student exchange program (August 5th
through August 13th). Discussion was held regarding the first draft of the
activities calendar.
B. ' PRIORITIES:
1) Bayfest - Joe Garcia presented information regarding food and beverage
booths/exhibits at Bayfest. Drue Combs reported that Bayfest representatives
have offered the use of a stage if the Sister City Committee would present
cultural performances and entertainment. The committee agreed that the
responsibility of coordinating a stage at Bayfest would require ample
preparation and the committee did not favor this offer. The committee did
agreed to pursue and discuss options including an exhibit and presentation in
the educational and cultural areas of Bayfest.
2) Expand student exchange program dates - Johnnie Norman reported that
dates for the student exchange program have been expanded. The following
dates were announced by committee chairpersons as confirmed for the 1995
student exchange:
CC to Japan-7/16 to 8/2 Japan to CC - 8/2 to 8/18
CC to Toledo-6/23 to 7/21 Toledo to CC - 7/21 to 8/20
CC to Veracruz-7/9 to 7/26 Veracruz to CC - 7/26 to 8/12
CC to Monterrey-7/9 to 7/26 Monterrey to CC-7/26 to 8/14 or 15
3) Memorabilia - Elida Gonzalez reported that inventory lists have been
received from the Corpus Christi Museum and the City of Corpus Christi
describing gifts presented to Corpus Christi on behalf of Sister Cities. Ms.
Gonzalez and Joe Garcia plan to view the memorabilia and report at the
March meeting. Drue Combs recommended a permanent display in the
locals section of the Library.
4) Street name - Adrian Dansby to report at March meeting.
5) Sister City sign at entrance to city - Dolores DeLeon will report at March
meeting.
D. MONTERREY, MEXICO - Rudy Delgado reported that Monterrey will
participate in the 1995 student exchange program and dates for the student
exchange have been established (see VI:B2).
E. TOLEDO, SPAIN - Fernando Iglesias' reported that dates are to be
established between Toledo and Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi
representatives for a graduate student exchange program in the field of
Marine Biology.
Mr. Iglesias also reported that Toledo, Spain may be sending a group of five
(5) artists to travel to all of Toledo's sister cities including Corpus Christi.
Artist, Charo Misas continues plans for an exhibit in Corpus Christi late in
1995.

F. VERACRUZ, MEXICO - Yvonne Haag, reporting for Ramon Lopez,
announced that a fax was received from Veracruz officials proposing several
exchange programs including: an expanded student exchange; teacher
exchange; and a pen pal program. The committee agreed that many of the
proposed exchanges are favorable, and Mr. Lopez will reply.
F. YOKOSUKA, JAPAN - Johnnie Norman introduced Makoto Aiso,
representative for Yokosuka, Japan's Overseas Dispatch Training Program.
Mr. Aiso gave a brief report on his visit to Corpus Christi and scheduled
activities.
Ms. Norman presented a written report by Vicky Villarreal, U.S.A.-Japan
Volunteer Internship Program representative, entitled "An Exchange of
Ideology on Volunteerism".
G. PROJECTS - Michael Flores requested participation by the Committee
regarding the final plans for the 2nd Annual City of Corpus Christi Sister City
Invitational Golf Tournament. Miguel Rendon commented that with the
assistance of the entire Sister City Committee, fundraising efforts could be a
great success.
H. SELECTION COMMITTEE -Adrian Dansby reported the student exchange
application packets have been sent to the schools and the selection interviews
are scheduled for March 28th and 29th along with an announcement reception
on the 30th.
VII. CURRENT CONCERNS: None expressed.
VIII. ACTION ON ABSENCES:
Fernando Iglesias motioned to excuse the absences by committee member, Mary
Saenz. The motion was seconded by Michael Flores, and the vote was unanimous.
IX. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC:
Members of"Alliance Francias"were present to offer assistance and express support
for a sister city affiliation in France.
X. ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
