MONDAY, APRIL 3, 1995, 6:00 P.M.

L CALL TO ORDER - The Monday, April 3, 1995 meeting of the Sister City Steering
Committee was held in the Committee Room of City Hall. The meeting was called to order
at 6:10 p.m. by Drue Combs, General Chairperson.
IL ROLL CALL-A quorum was present at approximately 6:30 p.m.
III. ACTION ON MARCH 6, 1995 MEETING MINUTES -No action taken.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT - Marion Loucks reported that the Trust Fund remains at
$2,404.65, and the General Fund was $16,645.14 as of February 1995.
V. DISCUSSION ITEM:
A. Recommendations for the renaming of Palmetto Park in honor of the city's
international sister city affiliations.
Committee members made several suggestions of names for the park honoring sister city
affiliations. Michael Flores motioned that a phone poll be taken of absent committee members
to determine a full committee decision. Sam Polk seconded the motion, and the vote was
unanimous. Further action to be taken at the May 1995 meeting.
B. Discussion regarding the initiation of a Sister City Affiliation with Ochsenfurt,
Germany.
Drue Combs reported that a letter was sent to Ochsenfurt, Germany proposing a Sister City
Affiliation with Corpus Christi. Edna Brown, representative from the local German Society,
offered support for the proposal. Staff will prepare a comprehensive information packet to
include a letter of support from Mayor Rhodes to the Mayor of Ochsenfurt. No action was
taken.
C. Discussion regarding the purchase of commemorative writing pens for the Sister
City Committee.
Drue Combs reported that commemorative writing pens are available at a cost of$1.99 each
plus.15 each for gift boxes. Ms. Combs suggested that the pens could be used as Sister City
gifts and promotional items. Joe Garcia made a motion to purchase 100 writing pens with
boxes. Adrian Dansby seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.

C. AGEN,FRANCE-No report.
D. VERACRUZ, MEXICO - Yvonne Haag, reporting for Ramon Lopez, announced
that the Veracruz committee is working with the Mexican Consulate's Office to
coordinate a brief visit by the Mayor of Veracruz, Mr. Roberto Buena Campos and
their Director of Tourism, Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez Cortez. Ms. Haag also announced
that through the support and coordination of the Mexican Consulate's Office, the
Sister City Committee and the Center for Hispanic Arts, Veracruz has proposed to
provide special cultural presentations for the diez y seis de septiembre celebration in
Corpus Christi. Ms. Haag introduced Sandra Olay, assistant to the Mexican Consul,
to further explain developments with Veracruz which include additional exchanges
and organized trips between our two cities.
E. YOKOSUKA, JAPAN -No report.
F. RISHON-LE-ZION, ISRAEL-No report.
G. SELECTION COMMITTEE- Adrian Dansby reported that twelve(12) students
and two (2) alternates were chosen for the 1995 student exchange. Mr. Dansby
expressed concern regarding a need to recruit a larger number of student applicants,
and recommended that a subcommittee be formed to explore options to enhance
recruitment for 1996.
H. ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE - Drue Combs requested that committee members
consider which days they will sponsor/chaperone for the student exchange activities,
and report to staff for scheduling.
L PROJECTS COMMITTEE - Michael Flores reported that plans continue to
progress for the golf tournament. Johnnie Norman reported that door prizes are
needed and that letters will be sent to previous sponsors and other prospective
donors. Ms. Norman requested assistance from committee members.
VII. CURRENT CONCERNS: None expressed.
VIM HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC:
Nancy Stevens,Executive Director for The Asian Culture Museum&Education Center,was
present to express support for Sister City programs.
IX. ADJOURNMENT-The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
