CALL TO ORDER—Chair Miguel Rendon called Meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL—The roll was called and the recording secretary announced a quorum.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES — Chair Miguel Rendon called for the approval of the special
called meeting minutes of January 10, 2000. Rachel Gonzalez moved to accept the minutes as
written. Sophia Hernandez seconded and the motion carried.
TREASURER'S REPORT —Ronnie Sepulveda, staff liaison, reported General Fund balance is
$17,495.96, and Trust Fund balance is $2,831.30. Trust Fund is not up to date.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:
A. French delegation to visit Corpus Christi in April — Chair Rendon stated the French
delegation to visit April 7-16. A delegation lead by Councilwoman Cooper would be in France
April 20-24. Staff will find out council liaison.

B. Subcommittee to review Bylaws and Policies — Chair Rendon and staff liaison, Ronald
Sepulveda requested a subcommittee be formed to review the bylaws and policies.
(Toni Lucario and Yalee Shih arrived at 6:12 p.m)
Drue Combs, Lucy Reta, Johnnie Norman and Rachel Gonzales volunteered for subcommittee.
(Gary Hansen arrived at 6:17 p.m)
Ms. Lucario would assist in accommodations for members interested in going to Agen.
C. Fundraiser—Roast—Chair Rendon opened discussion regarding the fundraiser—roast.
Charles Tamez motioned that the fundraising committee is given authorization to move
ahead on the project. Johnnie Norman seconded and the motion carried.

D. German interns for 2001 — Chair Rendon opened discussion regarding German interns for
2001. Staff liaison, Ronald Sepulveda, advised the committee the two German students
would like to intern from May to July 2001. Rudy Delgado felt the role belonged to the City
of Corpus Christi, however, felt the Sister City Committee should assist. A consensus of the
membership agreed to take part in hospitality for the students.
E. Letter to Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines and Zhifu District of Yantai City Shandong
Province, P.R. China for proposed Sister City. — Chair Rendon opened discussion regarding
letters to Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines and Zhifu District of Yantai City Shandong
Province, P.R. China for proposed Sister City. Yalee Shih reported she also knew that a large
port city, Pusan, in South Korea expressed interest in a relationship with Corpus Christi.

Drue Combs suggested in reply to the cities that the Committee was not looking at this time.
Chair Rendon to search out other sister cities due to the trouble with Veracruz, Mexico.

Staff recommended sending an acknowledgement letter to China but to send the Philippine
government the letter as written by staff. Johnnie Norman motioned to send the letter to Taguig,
Philippines as written. Drue Combs seconded and the motion carried.
Drue Combs recommended checking the cities for any other affiliations at www.sistercities.org.
If they do not have an U.S. affiliation, a general letter could be sent. Ms. Combs also
recommended a draft of the letter be emailed or faxed to all committee members first.
COMMITTEE REPORTS—
Yokosuka, Japan—Gary Hansen reported on the VIP program. One participant is a 22-year-old
college student interested in visiting the women's shelter, metro ministries and a workplace, the
other is a retired volunteer is interested in ASL, schools, religious versus non-religious volunteer
groups and water aerobics.
Mr. Hansen also reported the interviews will take place on February 17`h. The subcommittee
consisting of Mary Saenz, Elida Gonzales, Charles Tamez, Rose Gunji, Yalee Shih will meet at
7:00 on Tuesday, February 15, 2000. Mr. Hansen advised the committee the VIP exchange
would be in the March 14-28, 2000.
Gary Hansen motioned to send Sue Dulaney as an official representative of Sister City with the
stipulation that she will pay her own way. Drue Combs seconded and the motion carried.

Monterrey, Mexico — Rudy Delgado reported he has received a call from Ms. Peters. Ms.
Peters reported Carroll has not received any current information on the exchange program.
Blanca Becerra added Austin Henderson contacted her regarding a scheduling conflict with
exchange this year. She will ask Austin to write an official letter to the committee.
Veracruz, Mexico — Charles Tamez reported he has mailed a letter to his contact, but has not
received a response. Mr. Tamez will get meet with Mexican Consul.
Toledo, Spain—No report.
Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih reported Keelung wished the committee a happy Chinese New
Year. The Asian Cultural Museum and Korean community is having a professional costume
dance at the Selena Auditorium on February 19, 2000.

Agen, France — Toni Lucario reported she was unaware the delegation going to Agen, France
was an official Sister City trip. Ms. Lucario reported she would try to accompany the delegation
to France. Discussion regarding Ms. Lucario being sent as an official Sister City Representative
will be put on next month's agenda.
Selection Committee—Elida Gonzales reported all the letters went out to the schools.
Activities Committee—Miguel Rendon reported Mary Saenz would complete her last year with
Sister City next year. Ms. Saenz has requested someone to shadow her this year so as to replace
her next year. Sophia Hernandez expressed interest.
Young Artist Committee — Alexander Heatherley has not contacted King, Carroll, Miller,
Moody, Ray and Wynne Seale. Rose Gunji volunteered to contact the remaining schools.

Contestant's artwork would be displayed at the Antonio Garcia Art Center from April 1-9, 2000.
A presentation planned on April 9, 2000, winners will be announced followed by a reception.
The hospitality committee will assist in the preparations for the Young Artist Competition
reception and the Agen delegation in April.

CURRENT CONCERNS —Rudy Delgado reported Ms. Peters has requested a letter or referral
for her daughter last year's exchange student.

Chair Rendon reported the council has approved the naming of the Sister City Parkway. Drue
Combs suggested a dedication of the Sister City Park during Agen delegation visit.
ADJOURNMENT — Chair Rendon called for adjournment. Johnnie Norman moved to adjourn.
Alexander Heatherley seconded and the motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
