CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to
order at 6:10 p.m. by Chair Miguel Rendon.
ROLL CALL — The roll was called, recording secretary announced a quorum was present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES —Chair Rendon called for the approval of the minutes of March 6,
2000. Yalee Shih made correction page 1 to read, "Ms. Lucario moved, Ms. Shih attend as an
official representative of Sister City." Johnnie Norman moved to accept as corrected Alexander
Heatherley seconded, motion carried.
TREASURER'S REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda, staff liaison, reported Trust Fund balance is
$4,119.07 and General Fund balance is $15,775.52.
T-shirts will be purchased. Hospitality subcommittee to make recommendation for funds.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
A. Discussion regarding PR subcommittee involvement with Buccaneer parade — Chair
Rendon, discussed PR subcommittee involvement with Buccaneer parade. Johnnie Norman
reported Parade is on Saturday, May 6, 2000. Friday, April 7th is the deadline for parade entry.
(Elizabeth Iglesias arrived at 6:21 p.m.)
Chair Rendon stated parade would be good advertising. Discussion was heard. Johnnie Norman
moved the Committee participate in the Buccaneer Parade on May 6, 2000. Sue Dulaney
seconded, motion carried.
B. Discussion on Park Dedication — Chair Rendon discussed Park Dedication. Mr. Rendon
suggested Sister City Parkway dedication take place during student activities week. Discussion
on landscaping park was heard. Drue Combs advised that parkway is partially landscaped.
Lucy Reta motioned that the parkway dedication takes place during the activity week, Alexander
Heatherley seconded, motion carried.

C. Discussion on Fundraiser — Chair Rendon discussed fundraiser. City manager agreed on
roast, Monday, June 12`h. Subcommittee attendance is low. Mr. Rendon stated importance of
fundraiser and urged Committee to commit. Tickets will sell for $25.00 each. Discussion was
heard. The Committee agreed to commit to selling at least one table each.

COMMITTEE REPORTS —
Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen thanked all those who helped with the VIP participants. Mr.
Hansen reported the program went well. Sue Dulaney reported on her VIP trip. Gary Hansen
will ask Jennifer Abraria to report at next committee meeting.
Toledo, Spain — Elizabeth Iglesias reported there is a program available for students who speak
Spanish to take an all expense paid trip to Spain.
Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih reported on Agen trip, it was nice experience and was treated
very well. The Chinese community will perform Saturday, April 8th at the Folklife Celebration.
Monterrey, Mexico—Rudy Delgado reported he has informed the Monterrey government of the
exchange dates and the dates are firm.
Veracruz, Mexico — Staff liaison, Ronald Sepulveda, reported that Charles Tamez contacted the
Consul de Mexico, the exchange will take place and the suggested dates for exchange are good.
Agen, France — Staff liaison, Ronald Sepulveda, reported that he spoke with Mr. Isaac and they
want a three-week exchange. Confirmation was faxed.
Staff also reported that Agen is sending three exchange students and a host family is needed for
the third student. Staff suggested sending a letter to students not selected first and let them know
there is an opportunity to go to Agen on a"pay your own way"basis.

Young Artist Committee — Alexander Heatherley reported that nine pieces of artwork were
received. Awards ceremony is on Sunday, April 9, 2000, 3 p.m. at Antonio Garcia Education
Center, 2021 Agnes. Judging will be Friday, April 7th. 1st prize $300, 2nd prize $200, and 31d
prize $100 donated by Dr. Puentes.
CURRENT CONCERNS — Staff liaison, Ronald Sepulveda, reported a complaint by Karen
Williamson on VIP program. Mrs. Williamson son applied. She sent a letter to Mayor with 45
questions including information on Sister City Committee members.

Staff advised if members do not want their addresses released to public, they need to write a
letter to Rebecca Huerta, City Secretary's Office.
ADJOURNMENT—As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
