I. CALL TO ORDER — The September 10, 2001 regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:06 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney. II. ROLL CALL —Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum. III. APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES from July 2, 2001 meeting - The minutes were approved as written. IV. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC — none V. TREASURER'S REPORT — Mr. Ronnie Sepulveda reported the General Fund balance is $15,682.33 and the Trust Fund is $1,382.82. There are no outstanding bills. VI. EXCHANGE STUDENT'S REPORTS — April Morales traveled to Agen, France. Gustavo Perez traveled to Monterrey, Mexico. Vickie Zepeda traveled to Toledo, Spain. (Raquel Madrigal arrived at 6:16 p.m.) Jesse LaPointe traveled to Yokosuka, Japan. (Gary Hansen arrived at 6:22 p.m.) Carlo Passeri traveled to Veracruz, Mexico. VII. DISCUSSION ITEM — Director's request to reduce the size of the Committee. Drue Combs made a motion to send a letter to the Director of Park and Recreation stating that the Committee does not want its size reduced. Judy Beckendorfer seconded. Sue Dulaney is to write the letter. VIII. COMMITTEE REPORTS - A. Agen, France — Danielle Pearrell related her-Agen hospitality experience, which Sue Dulaney noted is simular to ours. B. Keelung, Taiwan —Yalee Shih was absent. C. Monterrey, Mexico —Anne Jaime was out of town. D. Toledo, Spain — Dr. Jesus Rosales said there was nothing to report. E. Veracruz, Mexico— Rachel,Gonzales no longer on committee. F. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen said there was nothing to report. SCANNED - G. 2002 Young Artist Competition - Rose Gunji reportsthe informational packets have been sent to the schools. She requests volunteers for a committee. Judy Beckendorfer will secure the judge. H. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and the City's 150 Anniversary - Drue Combs states plans are being made for an early October trip. I. Volunteer Exchange Program - Gary Hansen lead discussion regarding the length of the visits. J. Fund-Raising Report- Lucy Reta shared four ideas from her committee. IX. STAFF REPORT- Ronnie Sepulveda; • reported that the City Council will announce.new Committee appointments at their regular meeting tomorrow. The Committee's Chairperson election will be held at our next month's meeting. The Chairperson will then appoint the sub-committees. • stated the Irish Cultural Committee wants to initiate action to become part of the Sister City program. • says the Peace Pole project being coordinated with the Arts and Cultural Commission is asking for artists rendering of six or more sides. The Peace Pole will be located in the Sister City Parkway. X. CURRENT CONCERNS - none XI. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS - • Rose Gunji reports installation plans at City Hall are being made for the Sister City- Flags. • Drue Combs has received a Pen Pal request as part of the Junior High TAAS objective. All members were urged to contact their teaching friends in our Sister Cities. • Sue Dulaney and Rose Gunji extended their appreciation to the Committee for their recent trip to the annual Sister City International Convention. • Sue Dulaney said "thank you" for the Committee's support during her term. XII. ADJOURNMENT- A motion was made by Drue Combs and seconded by Gary Hansen to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m. The motion passed. Ronald Sepulveda.
