I. CALL TO ORDER — The May 7, 2001 regular meeting of the Sister City Steering
Committee was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Sue Dulaney.
II. ROLL CALL—K Chute called roll, announced quorum.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES—Corrections:
• Ms. Madrigal made a correction that she was present at the April 12, 2001 meeting.
• Dr. Canales stated she was not present at the April 12,2001 meeting.
• There was a correction to item VII, F. Mr. Hansen suggested when we are ready to
select someone, that we also select someone from the Sister City Committee to
accompany them.
No other changes were made and the minutes were approved as corrected.

III. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC—
A. Report from David Doria, an exchange student from Miller High School, about his trip
last year to Veracruz, Spain. David presented pictures and spoke about his
experiences.

B. Rose Gunji announced and introduced winners of the Young Artist Competition and
their families. Jamie Gardner was presented award.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT— Mr. Ronnie Sepulveda reported the April 30, 2001 General
Fund balance is$14,977.68 and the Trust Fund is$2,691.20.
V. DISCUSSION ITEMS—
A. Discussion on Volunteer Exchange Program with Yokosuka,Japan.
Gary Hansen recommended the program begin in the fall, October.
B. Discussion on Sister City Peace Pole.
Rose Gunji showed the recently purchased Peace Pole and reported on her
investigation of construction cost and implementation ideas.
Ronnie Sepulveda explained the City Ordinance regarding a fund from
construction contributions for art displays. He will confirm the use of this fund
toward the Peace Pole exhibit and report to the committee.
Drue Combs provided additional information on display plaques and showed a
sample picture.

C. Discussion on all future correspondence with other countries.
Ronnie Sepulveda explained that Mayor Loyd Neal needs to know what is being
related. Therefore, he requests a copy of all correspondence. Ronnie is to give
Mayor Neal's email address to the committee.
Addendum: Ronnie Sepulveda will attain a "Good Will Ambassador"Certificate
for Danielle Pearrell.
D. Discussion to finalize Student Exchange Program time frames.
1. Agen, France —Corpus Christi Students June 30th to July 21st and Agen
Students July • 21St to August 11th
2. Keelung,Tiawan—Yalee Shih was not present.
3. Monterrey, Mexico_Ann Jaime was not present
4. Toledo, Spain —Corpus Christi Students June 16th to July 14th and Spain
students July 14th to August 11th
5. Veracruz, Mexico — Corpus Christi students July 13th to July 27th and
VeraCruz students July 27th to August 11th
6. Yokosuka, Japan—Corpus Christi Students, July 16th to July 30th , Yokosuka
Students July 30th to August 13th
VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Agen, France — Ms. Pearrell has corresponded quite often in regards to her visit.
Everything is going well.
B. Keelung,Taiwan—No report. Ms. Shih was absent.
C. Monterrey, Mexico—No report. Ms. Jaime was absent.
D. Veracruz, Mexico—Raquel Madrigal related from Rachel Gonzales that all was going
' l well. No other information was given.
U E. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen recommended beginning their program in the fall.
Perhaps during October.
G. Toledo, Spain — Elizabeth Iglesias said Guy Morrow is leaving for Toledo this
Sunday. He scheduled to return May 25th or June 5th. She described his funding
process and the good responses to their requests.
H. Young Artists' Competition —Rose Gunji presented her Final Report. See hand-out.
Sue Dulaney thanked Rose Gunji for her dedication to this project
I. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and city's 150 Anniversary—Drue Combs stated she
had a meeting with the mayor scheduled for this Thursday. She will report that
outcome at our next meeting.
J. Student Exchange Program—Students have been selected and trained.
K. Student Exchange Activities Report - Johnnie Marie Norman distributed and held
discussion on the 2001 Student Exchange Activity Schedule hand-out.
• $2,500 is needed for the various activities this year
• Due to the reception,there will not be a committee meeting on August 6th
• Ronnie Sepulveda is to write a contribution letter for Whataburger.
• Sue Dulaney suggested we solicit HEB to help sponsor the Farewell Reception.
• • Johnnie Marie Norman suggested the Mayor be asked to attend the Farewell
Reception.
• Drue Combs suggested the City Council be invited, and the participants $600 fee
is applied to theseactivities expenses.
• Ronnie Sepulveda will make arrangements to refund the application fee to those
applicants that were not selected.
• Chris Barnes stated the last Bay Jammin'Concert is on the same evening as the
Farewell Reception. The committee discussed coordinating these events.

U VII. STAFF REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda states two new committee members will be
appointed at Council. Additionally, he said fund raising ideas need to be implemented.
Judy Benkendorfer suggested since we sponsored Guy Morrow's trip to Spain, he might
donate a painting for raffle or auction.
Chris Barnes distributed the Sister Cities Gift Inventory hand-out. T-shirts were in. Sue
Dulaney expressed `thanks'for Chris'work with this committee.
VIII. CURRENT CONCERNS—
• Elizabeth Iglesias suggested business card for the new committee members.
Chris Barnes will investigate and report back to the committee.
• JoAnn Canales asked about funding for the 'goodies' inventory. Sue Dulaney
explained the money comes from the general fund.
• Are there any official duties for our committee members who travel to other
countries? No,just to enjoy your trip responded Sue Dulaney. A report will be given
after return.
IX. ADJOURNMENT—Meeting was adjourned at 7:18 p. .
