I. CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the.Sister City Steering Committee was
called to order at 6:04p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney.
II. ROLL CALL — Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum.
III. APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES from September 10, 2001 meeting -
Under Additional Comments Sue Dulaney noted that Judy Benkendorfer and Drue
Combs were appointed to look for gifts that represent Corpus Christi and Texas.
The minutes were approved as corrected.
IV. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC — none
V. TREASURER'S REPORT — Mr. Ronnie Sepulveda reported the General Fund balance
is $15,676.28 and the Trust Fund is $1,382.82. There are no outstanding bills.
VI. EXCHANGE STUDENT'S REPORTS —
Wendy Lai traveled to Veracruz, Mexico.
(Raquel Madrigal arrived at 6:09 p.m.)
Neal Ashour traveled to Toledo, Spain.
Sam Painter traveled to Agen, France.
(Mufid Abudiab arrived at 6:12p.m.)
Rene Gloria traveled to Keelung, Taiwan.
(JoAnn Canales arrived at 6:25 p.m.)
VII. DISCUSSION ITEM —
A. Chairman Election — Drue Combs nominated Sue Dulaney for Chairman. Rose
Gunji seconded. Sue Dulaney accepted by acclamation.
B. Purchase of Flags for City Hall — Drue Combs made a motion to purchase our Sister
City State Flags to be displayed in City Hall. Yalee Shih seconded. Motion passed.
C. VIP trip to Japan — Gary Hansen stated there was no new information at this time.

D. Gifts for trips and delegation — Chris Barnes gave information to Judy Benkendorfer
and Drue Combs.
VIII. COMMITTEE REPORTS —
A. 2002 Young Artist Competition — Rose Gunji shows this year's publicity posters and
requests distribution assistance.
B. France and Spain delegation trip — Melody Cooper said the Mayor has not received
response to his letter. Therefore, there is no additional information.
C. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and the City's 150 Anniversary - Drue Combs states
there was no new information at this time.
D. Selection Committee - Drue has visited the CCISD Counselors regarding the
selection process of the Student Exchange Program.
E. Fund-Raising Report— Lucy Reta requests additional ideas for the Committee.
F. Volunteer Exchange Program — Gary Hansen said there is no new information.
G. Monterrey, Mexico —Anne Jaime was out of town.
H. Agen, France — Danielle Pearrell related a card of support we received. Other
members also acknowledged communiqués of support received.
I. Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih requests we communicate our concern and support
to our Sister City after their recent typhoons.
J. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen said there was nothing to report.
K. Toledo, Spain — Dr. Jesus Rosales reports he is still trying to make contact.
IX. STAFF REPORT—
• Ronnie Sepulveda deferred to Chris Barnes who reported that the Committee was
nominated for a Star Award and Sue Dulaney was individually nominated for a Star
Award through the Volunteer Center of the Coastal Bend. Invitations to the award
breakfast have been received and will be distributed.
• Ronnie Sepulveda also reported a representative from Cesme, Turkey has called
and will be in Corpus Christi on November 7th to talk about becoming a Sister City.
X. CURRENT CONCERNS — none
Xl. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS —
• Drue Combs asked if the Committee had any Pen Pal responses.
(Raquel Madrigal left at 7:00 pm.)
• Drue Combs lead discussion on public education about our Sister Cities.
• Sue Dulaney will be calling for Committee assignments.
XII. ADJOURNMENT —
A motion was made by Drue Combs and seconded by Gary Hansen to adjourn the
meeting at 7:07 p.m. The motion passed.
