CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:02p.m. by Chair, Sue.Dulaney. II. ROLL CALL — Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum. III. APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES from October 1, 2001 meeting - The minutes were approved as written. IV. TREASURER'S REPORT — Chris Kailas reported the General Fund balance is $15,611.53 and the Trust Fund is $1,382.82. V. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC — (Melody Cooper left at 6:05) Marie Wood, co-founder of the Columbus Ships Preservation Fund presented their plans to establish a Maritime Charter School for grades 9 — 12 in Corpus Christi. VI. ACTION ITEMS — Rose Gunji made a motion for the Committee to approve the appointments made by Chairperson, Sue Dulaney. Edna Balboa seconded. The motion passed. VII. DISCUSSION ITEMS — A. Dates suggested for the 2002 Exchange Program — Tuesday, July 30th through Wednesday, August 14th' B. Star Awards Breakfast information exchange and attendee count. VIII. STUDENT REPORT— Carlos Quintanilla, Jr. gave a summary of his trip to Yokosuka, Japan. IX. COMMITTEE REPORTS — A. Agen, France — Danielle Pearrell related there was nothing new to report. (Yalee Shih arrived at 6:27 p.m.) SCANNED B. Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih requested support for the January 26th visit of approximately 35 students and chaperones hosted by the Asian Cultures Museum. Rose Gunji volunteered to be on a committee to help Ms. Shih. C. Monterrey, Mexico —Anne Jaime was absent. D. Toledo, Spain — Dr. Jesus Rosales said there was no report.. E. Veracruz, Mexico — Rachel Gonzales said there was nothing new to report. F. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen said there was nothing new to report. G. Volunteer Exchange Program — Gary Hansen and Mr. Kawasaki are discussing a March 2002 date. H. 2002 Young Artist Competition — Rose Gunji said all schools have received posters and participation information and that the school counselors are distributing this year's information to the students. (Raquel Madrigal left at 6:47 p.m.) I. Sister City Art Show — Sue Dulaney said that Melody Cooper and Bill Otten of the Art Museum are working on a future display of artwork from our various Sister Cities. J. Selection Committee — JoAnn Canales will be meeting with Drue Combs. K. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and the City's 150 Anniversary - Drue Combs lead discussion regarding a fall verses summer date. Fall was agreed upon. Sue Dulaney requested Wayne Bennett develop a package to facilitate all Sister City representatives to visit Corpus Christi. Mr. Bennett gave the preliminary information. L. Fund-Raising Report— Lucy Reta was absent. X. STAFF REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda was absent. Chris Kailas reported: • The business cards arrived. • There is one Student Report still outstanding. • Frank Tumaro of Turkey was delayed in Austin and not able to attend our meeting. • The nametags have been delayed one to two weeks. • Current rosters were distributed. • Discussion and agreement to have the December meeting at Sue Dulaney's house. XI. CURRENT CONCERNS — none XII. ADJOURNMENT — Chairperson, Sue Dulaney adjourned the meeting at 7:04 p.m. //' Chris Kallas Multicultural Services Division Park & Recreation Department
