I. CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was
called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney.
II. ROLL CALL — Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum.
III. APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES from December 3, 2001 meeting -
The minutes were approved as written.
IV. TREASURER'S REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda reported the General Fund balance is
$15,275.71 and the Trust Fund is $1,382.82.
V. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC — none
VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS —
A. Grant from France for Historical Restorations
Sue Dulaney lead discussion on the twenty to twenty-five thousand dollar grant
application that is due by January 17, 2002.
B. Group Travel Package
Wayne Bennett was absent. Sue Dulaney reported that Mr. Bennett is working on a
travel package to offer our Sister City delegates who wish to visit Corpus Christi.
Events could be coordinated with the Sesquincentennial celebration.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS —
A. Agen, France— Danielle Pearrell shared the Season's Greeting received.
B. Keelung, Taiwan —Yalee Shih gave an update and lead discussion about the Asian
Cultures Museum sponsored visit of the Youth Folk Sports National Champions from
Keelung. Mufid Abudiab, Edna Balboa, and Frances Powell volunteered to help.
The Committee will host a welcome celebration for about 150 people at the Galvan
House, on Friday, January 25, 2002, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
C. Monterrey, Mexico —Anne Jaime said there was nothing new to report.

D. Toledo, Spain — Mufid Abudiab reported conversations and date discussions are
continuing.
Artist Exchange — Melody Cooper is continuing to work with our Art Museum on a
project to display Art from our Sister Cities.
E. Veracruz, Mexico — Mannti Cummins said there was nothing new to report.
F. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen said contacts were made and greetings received.
Mr. Hansen will coordinate the donation of a firefighters uniform.
1. VIP Exchange - Gary Hansen and Mr. Kawasaki are continuing their discussion
of an end of March or beginning of April, 2002 date. Volunteers for the program are
JoAnn Canales, Danielle Pearrell, and Judy Beckendorfer.
2. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and the City's 150 Anniversary — Drue Combs
was absent. There was no report.
G. 2002 Young Artist Competition — Rose Gunji was absent. Sue Dulaney suggested
• all Committee members remind their contacts of the upcoming deadline.
H. Student Exchange Program — JoAnn Canales stated the Student Interviews are
scheduled for the evenings of February 19th and 20th at the Galvan House. The
announcement will be made on March 4th and the general meeting with the students
will be March 10th
I. Student Exchange Activities Report — Judy Beckendorfer lead a review of last
year's activities and suggestions for this year.
J. Flag Project — John Wright stated the Sister City Flags had arrived. Several
committee members will arrive at 5:30, February 4th to consider display options.
VIII. STAFF REPORT—
Ronnie Sepulveda said the dues for Sister City International will be paid this month.
Mr. Sepulveda stated conversation with the representative from Turkey was continuing.
Mr. Sepulveda said the Texas Legislature changed the starting date for the school
calendar. Members were to verify this information and adjust their plans accordingly.
IX. CURRENT CONCERNS — Sue Dulaney expressed appreciation to Mrs. Sepulveda and
Chris Kailas for the Christmas cards received by the Committee.
X. ADJOURNMENT—
John Wright made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:03 p.m. Edna Balboa
seconded. The motion passed.
