CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney. II. ROLL CALL— Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum. III. APPROVAL/CORRECTION OF MINUTES from March 4, 2002 meeting - Edna Balboa made a motion to approve the minutes as read. Gary Hensen-seconded. Motion passed. .(Mannti Cummins and Raquel Madrigal arrived at 6:03 p.m.) IV. TREASURER'S REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda reported $2,591.48 was in the Trust Account and $6,156.99 was in the General Fund. • (Melody Cooper arrived at 6:05 p.m.) .V. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC— none VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS — A. Discussion on Sister City Conference Fees - Ronnie Sepulveda stated the Sister City Conference will be held in Toledo, Ohio from July 17th through 20th Registration fee, before July.lSt, is $350.00. Rose Gunji is interested in attending. This will be an agenda item for our May meeting. B. Discussion on Fund Raiser- Lucy Reta was absent. There was no report. C. Discussion on trip to Japan - Drue Combs said final arrangements will depend on how many will be going and the currency exchange rate at that time. The basic trip is planned from October 1st through 1th. The extended trip returns on October 13tH Interested members should contact Ms. Combs. - D. Discussion on proposal for Peace Pole - Ronnie Sepulveda stated the Aloe Tile Company's proposal.was accepted. The 6 foot concrete pole will be tiled with an appropriate statement like, "May Peace Prevail" in our six Sister City languages. The pole is scheduled for installation in July. E. Public Relations, Flag Report — John Wright showed a diagram of the City Hall Atrium, the proposed position of the Sister-City Flags, and a wooden medallion style- mounting bracket. Mr. Wright will coordinate mounting with Jim Boggs, a City Architect. SCANNED VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS— A. Agen, France— Danielle Pearrell and Lucy Reta were absent. There was no report. B. Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih reported 2 students and 1 teacher had been selected. A host family is needed. C. Monterrey, Mexico—Ann Jaime stated they will be selecting their students soon. D. Veracruz, Mexico — Mannti Cummins said there was no news to report. However, he is working to coordinate future activities with the CC Tourist and Visitors Bureau. E. Toledo, Spain — Jesus Rosales said there was no news to report. Mr. Rosales will ask how long the artist wants to visit, how many pieces of art will be brought and their dimensions. A display area and host family are needed. F. Yokosuka, Japan - Gary Hansen reported that the Japanese VIP representatives arrived Tuesday, March 26th. Joe Alley, as our VIP representative will leave for Japan April 10th. Mr. Alley will take additional fire fighter's gear for their emergency preparedness display. G. Sister City Travel Coordinator—Wayne Bennett said plans are progressing. He is also helping with the Exchange Student Activities project. Gary Hansen introduced Joe Alley and the Japanese VIP Representatives. (John Wright left at 6:37 p.m.) H. Young Artist's Competition — Rose Gunji invited everyone to view the art now displayed at the Galvan House. The winners will be announced and introduced at a reception following the business meeting tonight. I. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and City's. 150th Anniversary — Drue Combs said there was nothing new to report. J. Student Exchange Program — JoAnn Canales was absent. Sue Dulaney passed pictures of the students selected and told of their destinations. K. Student Exchange Activities Report — Sue Dulaney announced that letters were ready to be mailed, additional meetings are scheduled and a sign-up sheet will be presented at our June meeting. L. Art Exchange Program — Melody Cooper requested email addresses of museums. VIII. STAFF REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda said Javier Colmenero received a letter from Xiang, Japan requesting to be a Sister City. This request will be declined at this time according to the committee's previous decision for a moratorium. IX. CURRENT CONCERNS — Drue Combs expressed appreciation for the support shown on her father's death. X.
