I. CALL TO ORDER — The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was
called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney.
II. ROLL CALL— Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum.
III. HEARING FROM PUBLIC - none
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES from May 6, 2002 meeting -
Edna Balboa made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Wayne Bennett
seconded.. Motion passed.
V. TREASURER'S REPORT — Chris Kailas reported $389.82 was in the Trust Account
and $3,790.47 was in the General Fund.
(Rose Gunji arrived at 6:04 p.m. Gary Hansen arrived at 6:06 p.m. Yalee Shih arrived at 6:07
p.m. Jesus Rosales arrived at 6:07 p.m. Mufid Abudiab arrived at 6:09 p.m.)
VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS—
A. Discussion of Sister City Conference - (Toledo, Ohio, July 16th through 20th)
Ronnie Sepulveda and Rose Gunji plan to attend. Rose Gunji made a motion for
Committee's Funds to pay the registration fee for the Chairperson, Sue Dulaney.
John Wright seconded. Motion passed.
B. Discussion of Fundraiser - Lucy Reta reported the Taco Cabana fundraiser fell
short of expectations. She-will give the final tally at our July meeting.
C. Public Relations, Flag Report — John Wright met with City Hall officials last
Thursday, May 30th and was told the City Manager had concerns about the flags
being placed in the City Hall Atrium. The Committee reviewed possible options.
John Wright made a motion to restate to City Officials that the Committee desires
the Sister City Flags be hung in the City Hall Atrium. Lucy Reta seconded. _Motion
passed.
It was suggested that our Exchange Students present the Sister City flags at the
June 11th Council meeting.

VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS —
A. Agen, France— Lucy Reta said they have not heard back from their representative.
B. Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih said they have received a letter from Keelung's
Mayor stating they are ready for our student's visit.
C. Monterrey, Mexico —Ann Jaime said she needed to send our student's information.
Chris Kailas will assist her.
D. Veracruz, Mexico— Mannti Cummins was absent. There was no report.
E. Toledo, Spain — Jesus Rosales said they were ready to receive our students. We
have not received the names and information about their students.
F. Yokosuka, Japan - Gary Hansen reported his student orientation meeting was May
21st. Our student profiles have been sent. They are ready to receive our students.
We have not received the names and information about their students yet.
G. Sister City Travel Coordinator.— Wayne Bennett has designed a one-week
itinerary. Sue Dulaney will meet with Wayne next week to provide additional
information.
H. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and City's 150th Anniversary — Drue Combs
was absent.
I. Student Exchange Activities Report — Judy Benkendorfer and Edna Balboa have
a draft itinerary. Chaperone volunteers were solicited.
J. Art Exchange Program — Melody Cooper continues working on this project.
K. Marketing Report/Public Relations - John Wright is working on press releases for
the Flag Ceremony and the Student Exchange Program.
VIII. STAFF REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda was absent. Ms. Kailas had materials on each of
our students and the itineraries for the students going to Spain, France, Taiwan and
Japan.
Chris Kailas led discussion about gifts for the Exchange Students.
IX. CURRENT CONCERNS —
• Melody Cooper reported that Mayor, Lloyd- Neal is planning a trip to Agen, France
from August 20th through September 6th. Members interested in going, Judy
Benkendorfer, Rose Gunji, and Yalee Shih, are urged to contact Melody for
additional information.
• The press release regarding the Yokosuka and City's anniversary celebration has
not been seen in the Caller Times. Chris Kailas will re-send the announcement.
X. ADJOURNMENT — John Wright made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:42 p.m.
