Rose Gunji . I. CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney. II. ROLL CALL— Recording Secretary, K Chute called roll, announced quorum. New member, Randy Farrar was introduced by Sue Dulaney and welcomed to the Committee. III. HEARING FROM PUBLIC - none IV. APPROVAL OF'MINUTES from June 3, 2002 meeting - Since there were no additions or corrections, the minutes were approved as submitted. V. TREASURER'S REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda reported $389.82 was in. the Trust ' Account and $2,254.12 was in the General Fund. .- . Vi. DISCUSSION ITEMS — none • . VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS — A. Agen, France — Lucy Reta said she has not spoken to the representative to complete plans for their student's visit. Sue Dulaney and Chris Kailas will coordinate the return of artwork with our student's departure. B. Keelung, Taiwan — Yalee Shih said they are ready for our student's visit. And we are ready for their student's arrival. There will be a 14 year old boy and girl plus an escort. We have been invited to visit'their city as part of their local celebration. Mufid-Abudiab arrived at-6:14 p.m. Melody Cooper arrived at 6:16 p.m. C. Monterrey, Mexico — Ann Jaime was 'absent. Ronnie Sepulveda, noted that their student's visa was pending. Our students are ready for their visit. D. Veracruz, Mexico — Mannti Cummins was absent. Ronnie Sepulveda has been in contact with our representative and said a host family was needed for the male exchange student. • ' ' S . E. Toledo, Spain — Jesus Rosales said our students have arrived and are enjoying their visit. SCANNEb - • F. Yokosuka, Japan - Gary Hansen reported our students have arrived and are enjoying their visit. Our plans for their student's visit are complete. Gary also showed a poster from the Kanagawa Art Contest for students 5 — 15 years. Sue Dulaney and Chris Kailas will coordinate advertising for this event. G. Sister City Travel Coordinator—Wayne Bennett was absent. There was no report. H. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and City's 150th Anniversary — Drue Combs showed the celebration's logo and presented gift ideas of visors and coffee mugs. Drue also spoke of a Japanese Festival being planned with the Asian Cultures Museum for October 25, 26, & 27th. (Gary Hansen arrived at 6:28 p.m.) I. Student Exchange Activities Report — Judy Benkendorfer and Edna Balboa gave the draft itinerary. Chaperone volunteers were solicited. Mufid Abudiab is completing arrangements for the TX A&M breakfast and tour event. J. Art Exchange Program — Melody Cooper states the Mayor will attend the France/Spain trip. K. Public Relations — John Wright was absent. Sue Dulaney noted that our Exchange Students did present the Sister City flags to the Council on June 11th VIII. STAFF REPORT — Ronnie Sepulveda. and Chris Kailas said they had no additional information to add. Consensus indicated an early notification of upcoming meetings would be helpful. The secretary will send a reminder email a week before the meeting. IX. CURRENT CONCERNS • The August meeting will be held depending on the necessity of agenda items. • The September meeting will be held on the second Monday, September 9th due to the Labor Day Holiday. • Mufid Abudiab, Drue Combs, Melody Cooper and Ann Jaime need to advise Ronnie Sepulveda if they would like to serve another term on the Committee. X. ADJOURNMENT — Drue Combs made a motion toadjourn the meeting at 6:53 p.m. Edna Balboa seconded. Motion passed. .
