I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:15
p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney.
II. ROLL CALL:
Recording Secretary, Lydia J. Leos called roll, announced quorum.
III. STUDENT REPORTS:
The students gave their reports regarding their trips and experiences that each
encountered.
Sue Dulaney asked Melody Cooper to give a brief report on her trip since she had just
returned from France along with City Staff Personnel.
(Randy Farrar arrived at 6:17 p.m.)
(Gary Hansen and Raquel Madrigal arrived at 6:20 p.m.)
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES from July 1, 2002 meeting:
Since there were no additions or corrections, Chair, Sue Dulaney approved the minutes
as submitted.
V. TREASURER'S REPORT:
Ronnie Sepulveda reported $2,035.98 was in the Trust Fund Account and $15,961 was
in the General Fund.
VI. DISCUSSION ITEM:
Alex Terrain was not pleased with his visit to Yokosuka, Japan. His situation has been
resolved through the combined efforts of Staff and Gary Hansen.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. Agen, France—There was no report.
B. Keelung, Taiwan —Yalee Shih was absent. There was no report.
C. Monterrey, Mexico—Ann.Jaime was absent. There was no report.
D. Veracruz, Mexico—There was no report.
E. Toledo, Spain —Jesus Rosales was absent. There was no report.
F. Yokosuka, Japan — Gary Hansen reported that he would speak to a couple that
could possibly help with the 40th Anniversary event.
G. Sister City Travel Coordinator—There was no report.

H. 40th Anniversary with Yokosuka and City's 150th Anniversary— Drue Combs was
absent. Sue Dulaney and Ronnie Sepulveda explained that the scheduled dates
for this event are October 24th — 26th. Plans include going to the Museum, a
reception at the home of Drue Combs, a Japanese Festival, a performance by
the Sweet Adeline's in Flour Bluff. The delegation will depart on Sunday.
Our delegation's trip to Japan has been postponed. The tentative scheduled
trip to Japan will be in August of 2003 and the trip to Taiwan will be in January
of 2003.
I. Activities Report—Judy Benkendorfer and Edna Balboa have been coordinating
the week long activities for the exchange students. Some of the activities were
a Rope Course, Adopt-A-Wetlands Program, and a picnic.
J. Art Exchange Program — Rose Gungi has prepared all the packets for the Young
Artist Competition. She requests assistance from the members of the
committee to deliver the packets. Ms. Gungi will mail the packets that cannot
be delivered.
K. Public Relations — John Wright was not present for the meeting, but it was
mentioned that he did secure the RTA Bus for the Exchange Student's trip to
Port Aransas.
VIII. STAFF REPORTS:
Ronnie Sepulveda reported that the Sister City dedicated flags had been hung
around the atrium of City Hall for the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
He also reported that 5 people were reappointed to serve on the Sister City
Committee. They are Mufid Abudiab, Wayne Bennett, Melody Cooper, Ann Jaime
and Yalee Shih.
Additionally, next month would be election of a new Chairperson.
IX. CURRENT CONCERNS:
• The committee requests a report from Alex Gonzalez on his trip to Japan.
• Lucy Reta has completed her 6 terms and will retire from the Sister City
Committee.
• The Sister City Committee will discuss working on the Wheelchair for Peace
Program.
• The Sister City Peace Pole's installation is scheduled for sometime in
November.
• A recommendation was made for the Sister City Parkway sign to be relocated to
the top of the hill.
X. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. by Chair, Sue Dulaney.
