I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by Chair,Randy
Farrar.
II. ROLL CALL:
Recording Secretary called roll, announced quorum.
III APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Dr. Kent Byus and seconded by Dr.Mindy Chang to approve Minutes of the December
meeting. Minutes were approved as written.
IV HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC
No comments from the public
V TREASURER'S REPORT
Chris Kailas reported a beginning budget of$13,324.61. This balance shows expenditures of$3,000. $2,800 was
spent for the reception in Yokosuka,Japan and$217.12 for gifts from the hosting committee. Regis Barber donated
the$17.12 to reimburse the treasury for the additional expenditure.
VI DISCUSSION ITEMS
Partners In Peace Annual Conference--Randy Farrar led discussion and it was suggested that last
Year's exchange students along with the current exchange students be contacted to participate in the
youth program of the conference being held July 14-18 in Fort Worth,Texas. Chris Kallas will call the
Committee Chair of the Conference for additional information as to cost,etc.
2004 Annual Awards Program-Sister Cities International—Randy Farrar suggested that the City of
Corpus Christi Sister City Committee participates in the awards program. It was suggest that Corpus
Christi should enter the Peace Pole project,the Trip to Japan, the Wheel Chairs for Peace project,the
Young Artist Competition,Student Activities&the Best Overall categories. Amanda Haney was asked to
Chair the Peace Pole category and Rose Gunji to assist;Activities category to be submitted by Judy
Benkendorfer;Regis Barber was asked to submit information on the Trip to Japan and assisted by Drue
Combs;Ellen Murry was asked to spearhead the Wheelchairs for Peace project;the Young Artist
Competition submission is being conducted by Amanda Jane Haney and Rose Gunji. Randy Farrar will
submit the Best Overall category.

VII Staff Report-Chris Kailas informed the committee that the City of Laredo has invited CCSCC to
participate in the Laredo International Festival of Sister Cities which is a business, commerce,tourist,art&
culture exposition on Jan. 29-Feb. 1st at the Laredo Civic Center. Brochures for the Fort Worth
Conference are avail able for committee members who are considering going.
VIII Current Concerns—Randy Farrar commended the Laredo Sister City for their efforts in hosting
their International Festival of Sister Cities. The 2004 Exchange Students are being given a reception by the
Sister City Committee and Randy Farrar would like to recognize Jason Horn,a 2003 exchange student,
who expressed a desire to be involved with the 2004 exchange students.
IX Adjournment—Motion to adjourn made by Drue Combs and 2nd by Dr.Byus. At 6:58p.m. and
the Reception for thg new 2004 Exchange Students followed the meeting.
