I. CALL TO ORDER:
The regular meeting of the Sister City Steering Committee was called to order at 6:00
p.m. by Chair, Randy Farrar
II. Roll Call:
Recording Secretary called roll, announced quorum.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES —A motion was made by Judy Benkendorfer and seconded
by Flicka Rahn to approve the September 7, 2004 minutes as written. Motion passed by
acclamation.
IV. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC — Reports from the local 2004 Sister City Exchange
Students.

3. Lisa Saavedra, King High School student — Agen, France
4. Andrew Deehne, IWA student — Agen, France
5. Corinna Ortiz, Miller High School student — Keelung, Taiwan
6. Christian Swanson, IWA student — Keelung, Taiwan
7. Ray Palacios, King High School student — Veracruz, Mexico
8. Win Shun Lai, King High School student — Yokosuka, Japan
The chairman requested each student to turn in a copy of their report to the committee
and give a copy to their school newspaper.
Due to the lateness of the hour the chairman elected to suspend Agenda Item V,
the Treasurer's Report; Agenda Item VI, Discussion Items B & C and Agenda Item
VII under Committee Reports, A,B,C,D,E,F,G & I until the next meeting.
VI. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. Election of General Chair SCANNED
The chairman explained that according to the by-laws a general chair is to be
elected the first meeting in October.
Regis Barber nominated Randy Farrar, Judy Benkendorfer made a motion that he
be voted in by acclamation, it was seconded by Sharon Phillips. The motion
passed. Randy Farrar was elected to a second term as Chairman.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
H. Yokosuka, Japan
1 . VIP Exchange update — Regis Barber
Regis reported that contact had been made with representatives from Yokosuka
and it is planned that two local representatives will visit Japan in November. There
is an invitation extended to the representative from City of Corpus Christi to go to
the Sister Cities International Convention in Hiroshima. Regis reported the
information has been forwarded to Councilman Mark Scott and also to the City
Secretary's Office.
The chairman reported that Councilperson, Melody Cooper visited Toledo, Spain
and the Toledo representatives wrote SCC that they are interested in participating
in an exchange of painter/artist in spring, 2005. Toledo is willing to pay for the
travel expense and room and board for our artist, however, the local artist will be
responsible for paying for insurance and the shipping expense of his art work. Dr.
Gustavo Valadez identified Gregg Rubio as an artist interested in participating in
this program. Toledo has also expressed an interest in doing a musician
exchange with Corpus Christi. Dr. Valadez will get the details on this proposal.
X. ADJOURNMENT — A motion was made by Dr. Mindy Chang and seconded by Yalee
Shih. Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 7:30p.m.
