I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Jake Herring called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
The recording secretary called roll and announced that a quorum was present.
III. ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Regular called meeting- May 5, 2011. Jay Gardner made a motion to approve the minutes with changes
made. Neil McQueen seconded. Minutes approved.

V. BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION
New Business
Jake welcomed new member Jennifer Pollack to the committee.
Seaweed Removal from Bay Beaches
JoAnn requested information on removing Sargassum Seaweed from the Bay Beaches. Derek looked
into and found that seaweed can be removed only above the mean high tide line and must be placed
inside the beach system similar to Gulf Beach. It cannot be taken off the beach without a permit.
City/County Interlocal Agreement Update
The agreement was to have the City take over Newport Pass area currently controlled by Nueces
County with the County taking over everything south of Access Road 6.The City submitted the
agreement to the County in February.The County then requested a 90-day trial..Corrections were made
and the City resubmitted to the County.The County did not return the agreement and the time period
has passed; therefore,the agreement did not get finalized.
Maintenance of City Beach South of Access Rd. 6
The City would like to implement a"Nursery Beach" area south of Access Rd. 6. It will strictly be a
natural beach. Driving conditions will not be maintained. Ground trash sweeps will be once every 10
days. The City would like to have a one year trial period. Signs will be put up stating it is a nursery
beach and 4-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. Once the signs are created,they will be presented
to the WBAC for recommendations.
New City Maintenance Budget
Beach Maintenance Budget saw a$270,000 increase this fiscal year.The division is going from 3
operators, 1 wheeled loader, 1 grader, and a seaweed machine to 6 operators,3 wheeled loaders, 1
grader, and a seaweed machine.All equipment is leased with the exception of the tractor and seaweed
machine. New employees should be in place by November 1.
Old Business
Update on Water Quality
New member Jennifer Pollack will look into getting more information on Water Quality to provide the
committee with updates.

VIII. ADJOURNMENT
As there was no further business, Jay Gardner made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Neil McQueen
seconded. Jake adjourned the meeting at 6:14 pm.
