CALL TO ORDER Chair, Jake Herring called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. II. ROLL CALL The recording secretary called roll and announced that a quorum was present. III.ADOPTION OF MINUTES Regular called meeting- May 6, 2010. JoAnn requested grants be placed on the agenda, and it was left out.The item will be placed on the next agenda to discuss. Charles Marschall was listed as absent on the minutes, but was not sworn in.Tara will correct the minutes. JoAnn made a motion to approve the minutes. Neil seconded. Minutes were approved. IV. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC—Jake informed the committee that the City is looking into the Grants and looking at the area to determine what can be done with the properties. V. BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION/ACTION New Business Memorial Day Weekend Report Lifeguards had 84 calls; 8 were major, 76 were minor.A Catamaran flipped over.All 4 passengers were rescued along with a dog. A little over 1300 permits were sold over the 3 days. 7 citations were given out and several warnings. On the beach maintenance side, the beach was cleaned up Wednesday through Friday in order to have the beach drivable for the weekend. Hurricane Preparedness Reports The emergency operations report was included in the committee's packets. Derek recapped the phases of emergency procedures for the upcoming Hurricane Season. American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) award The ASBPA was recently awarded to Corpus Christi Beach and McGee Beach. HDR found the award and presented it to the City.The award is for the best restored beaches in the country. Beach Parking Permit Revenue The revenue for Beach Parking Permits this year was over$650,000. The money goes into the pool for beach funding which is a combination of HOT fund monies, GLO reimbursements, and Beach Parking Permit revenue. The money goes towards Beach Maintenance, Beach Parking, and Beach Safety. Total expense is 1.3 million dollars annually.The$650,000 goes towards that expense. Neil requested written documentation with the details. Safety at Packery Channel Neil spoke regarding issues with beach user groups. One specific kiteboarder has been causing problems at the beach and violating the watercraft ordinance. Recently, he assaulted a patron on the beach. Neil has drafted a letter to the D.A. and plans to have it signed by those who are part of the Kiteboarder community. JoAnn asked why the grants information was not put on the agenda.The item was not intentionally left off; however, the agenda was posted without it listed. It will be placed on the next agenda for discussion/action. SCANNED The committee would like to get an update from Paul Bass on the Up2U bags. Old Business Update on Water Quality(Peggy Sumner) Peggy Sumner was not available for the update. Update on the Oil Spill Right now the City is prepared for any signs of oil. They have not seen any effects from the oil spill as of yet. They are in communication with GLO, and will give updates as the come in. The committee would like to hear from Nueces River Authority. VI. Staff Liaison Report Tornadoes struck 3 stands on the beach during the recent storm. The damage will be repaired, and the stands will be put back on the beach. VII. Committee Concerns, Request for Information,Agenda Items Identify Items to be placed on next agenda The following items will be placed on the next agenda: Rincon Channel and North Beach wetlands grants and history, Update on Up2U bags, Update on Nueces River, Update on Oil Spill, and Update on Water Quality (Peggy Sumner). VIII. ADJOURNMENT As there was no further business, JoAnn made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Rob seconded. Jake adjourned the meeting at 6:15 pm.
