HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Watershore And Beach Advisory Committee - 10/04/2001 I Minutes11111. ` ' rC rG Regular Meeting \, Water/Shore Advisory Committee Meeting - Thursday, October 4, 2001 Members Present: Frank Beck, Alan Dinn (Chairman) (1), Dr. Oscar Garcia, (1), Dr. JoAnna Mott (1), Terri Nicolau(2) and Roy Pell Members Absent: Dr. Joseph Horvat (2), Dan Leyendecker (1) and Steven Moody (Vice Chairman) (3) Staff Present: George Noe, Deputy City Manager, David Ondrias, Assistant Director for Operations, Peter M. Davidson, Marina Superintendent; Rene Garza, Marina Maintenance Technician; Benita Brunner, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman Dinn called the regular meeting of the Water/Shore Advisory Committee to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Basement Training Room, City Hall and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Action on Minutes: Ms. Brunner noted a correction in the Minutes to reflect that Dr. Horvat was absent from the 9/6/01 meeting. The motion was made by Mr. Pell, seconded by Dr. Garcia, to approve the September 6, 2001 Minutes as corrected. The motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: None offered. Discussion Items: Director's Report: Mr. Noe, Mr. Ondrias and/or Mr. Davidson reported or responded to questioning: (1) maintenance schedule progress; (2) procedure for using dipping tank/trailer to treat piers removed/reinstalled in (8'x30") sections; (3) 400+ sections of damaged wood; (4) pier project completion date being in December; (5) first major electrical repairs to MORF Pier; (6) notice boards to be installed at each pier and outside the Marina; (7) notice to all mariners regarding safety zone area regarding no access to Inner Harbor Ship Channel; (8) tourist vessels not allowed Port access until further notice; (9) participating in February 2002 San Antonio Boat Show in conjunction with the Convention and Tourist Bureau to promote tourism; (10) Marina Staff working with local law enforcement regarding unauthorized vessel(s) in Port; (11) Grant application to build slips to accommodate large visiting vessels; (12) Legal Staff and City Council discussing Bait Stand matters in executive session; (13) meeting planned to discuss CCYC lease renewal; (14) Crab Shack business leveling out and doing well; (15) use of bulkhead adjacent to Crab Shack and repairs included for that area during Seawall Project; (16) Seawall Project timelines being available on City website; (17) CP&L/David Seiler working on lighting concerns; (18) RFP closing at 2:00 p.m. on October 24, 2001; (19) procedure after RFP closure; (20) working to determine ownership/responsibility for public boat ramps (i.e. between TAMU and North Gate to NAS and at the Flato Cut); (20) parking stickers for use Water/Shore Advisory Committee Meeting -1- C' October 4, 2001 11111M, of L-Head boat ramp; (21) problems with performing the 24°o rent discount; (22) parking concerns easing on Lawrence Street T-Head; and (23) Cole Park oil slick, handled by GLO and Oil Spill Association, being from an undetermined source. Committee Reports: None offered. Current Concerns: Chairman Dinn reported the CCYC would be hosting the J-22 North American Championships October 5-7, 2001. Mr. Davidson reported the Performance National Catamaran Championships would be held on North Beach October 8-12, 2001. Mr. Beck suggested that notes of thank you be sent to those who make presentations. Chairman Dinn suggested that improvements to boat ramp on Padre Island could result in additional Marina revenue. Mr. Beck suggested that the 4' of pier use be considered when comparing local rates with rates at other marinas in the future. Request for Information/Agenda Items: Mr. Davidson reported that Glenda Swierc of TNRCC would make a presentation regarding the Clean Marina Environment at the November meeting. Mr. Davidson reported that the Marina Association of Texas' annual conference would be held at South Padre; that the Corpus Christi Marina has been entered for the Best Marina of the Year and Clean Texas Marina Program Awards. Mr. Pell suggested that Harbor Lights representatives might want to make a presentation at the next meeting.
