The meeting was called to order at 6:35pm.
First Meeting for 2009-2010
Attendance:
West Buchanan, Robert Ansel, Alex Maingot, Lilia Ramos, Ana Cruz, Emily Paulison,
Alex Legamaro,Monica Herbst,Ryan Camacho, John Rodarte, Marie Flynn,Natasha
Alexander,Kasey Devoe, Lino Diaz, Silvester Torres,Daniella Sanchez, Olivia Santos,
Elizabeth Wood, Victoria Villarreal, Leighton James, Elva Saenz, Sararose Vera
Primary and Alternates were invited to this meeting.
Election of Officers:
Chair- Robert Ansel
Vice Chair- Elizabeth Wood
Secretary- Lino Diaz
Historian- Emily Paulison
Communications Representative- Leighton James
Youth Issues Discussed:
Teen Pregnancy
• Sex education/Health Class
• Get a speaker that can relate to the youth. Someone who has
gone through the experience of teen pregnancy.
• Get and give the facts/ start an abstinence club/programs
SCANNED
Drop Outs
• Not being able to graduate due to testing/can not pass test to
graduate
• Too many drop outs
• Youth having to work to pay bills for their families
• Have a job fair for youth's parents to help them find jobs /
better jobs
• Make the youth realize they need to work hard
• Change the minds of the youth not to repeat what their parents
did
• Families need help to keep children in school/How do we help
them?
Drug Problem
• Too much drug use in youth
Budgets cuts in schools
• Not enough teachers
• Programs being cut
• Do fundraisers to help schools
Athletics vs. Academics
• Too many funds going towards athletic programs
• Not enough funding for academic programs
• Too much fundraising for athletics
• Athletic programs get more advantages than academic
programs
YAC members will discuss with students at respective school issues of
concern and bring back topics to submit for project ideas.
