MUNICIPAL GREENS COMMITTEE
June 29, 1994
CALL TO ORDER: The regular monthly meeting of the Municipal Greens Committee was
called to order at 5:00 p.m. at the Oso Municipal Golf Course by Orville Ponder, Chairman.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Orville Ponder, Chairman, Ray Wanek, Acting Secretary, Willy
Antonetz, Ally Nielson, Merris Powers, Ruby Fontana, and Robert Riviera.
STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Mike Gordon, Assistant Director for Operations, Scott
Roberts, Greenskeeper, Red Taylor, Golf Pro, Dan Buder, Assistant Pro.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Bill Hatfield, Gulf Coast Golf Assoc.
Chairman Ponder announced that Mr. Lou Stewart, Vice-Chairman/Secretary, had resigned
from the Committee.
(Action on Mr. Hatfield's absence and election of Vice Chairman/Secretary will be taken at
the August meeting.)
STAFF REPORT: Mr. Gordon submitted a very favorable report on fivesomes at the Gabe
Lozano Municipal Course. He stated staff will continue to seek comments from the players
during this four month trial period.
Mr. Gordon also reported that the golf carts for both courses have been ordered and delivery
is expected at the end of July.
Mr. Gordon also reported that the fairway on both courses will be fertilized during July.
CURRENT CONCERNS: The need for additional temporary drinking fountains during
extreme hot weather months was discussed. It was also mentioned there is a problem with the
cart path on #1 and #5 greens at Gabe Lozano.
ADJOURNMENT: As there were no further issues to discuss, Ruby Fontana made the
motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
Mr. Gordon announced the next regularly scheduled meeting will be held July 27th at the Oso
Municipal Course.
