MINUTES
MUNICIPAL GREENS COMMITTEE
August 31, 1994
CALL TO ORDER: The regular monthly meeting of the Municipal Greens Committee was
called to order at 5:00 p.m. on August 31, 1994, at the Oso Beach Municipal Course by
Chairman Orval Ponder.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Over 50 Assoc., Gulf Coast Golf Assoc. and Gabe Lozano Golf
Assoc.
STAFF PRESENT: Mike Gordon, Assistant Director for Operations
ELECTION OF OFFICER: Chairman Ponder conducted the election for the position of
Secretary. The motion was made and seconded that Eloy A. Barreda be elected Secretary
for the upcoming 94-95 term. The motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There were no minutes from the July 27th meeting.
STAFF REPORT: Staff reported that depending on weather it was hopeful that the sod
nursery would be installed in the chipping area at Oso. Revisions are being made to
46 improve the golf car rental process in order that golfers will be better informed of their
responsibilities when renting a golf car. The Committee was also with an update on the trial
program of allowing Fivesomes to play at Gabe Lozano. Fivesomes are being allowed to
play on weekends and the time for a fivesome is still averaging slightly over 4 hours.
CURRENT CONCERNS: Members mentioned several maintenance items at Gabe Lozano
which needed attention, such as the repair of the clubhouse drinking fountain, the possibility
of painting the clubhouse rest rooms and bunker sand needed at #18.
At Oso, a concern was expressed regarding the need for sufficient toilet paper in the
clubhouse ladies rest rooms and that the course restroom has been being locked on
weekends. It was mentioned that there are irrigation leaks on #8 fairway,the back of mens
tee on #12 and a sprinkler head causing an erosion problem in the sand trap on #2.
Other concerns was the protection of cart paths from heavy equipment to prevent breaking
the paths.
The next meeting will change locations and will be held at Gabe Lozano on September 28th
at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. by Chairman Ponder.
