MUNICIPAL GREENS COMMITTEE
September 28, 1994
CALL TO ORDER: The regular monthly meeting of the Municipal Greens
Committee was called to order at 5 :10 p.m. on September 28, 1994,
at the Gabe Lozano Sr. Municipal Golf Course by Chairman Orval
Ponder.
MEMBER PRESENT: Lee Smith, Morris Powers, Ray Wanek, Bill Hatfield,
Orval Ponder, Wally Nielson, representative for Willy Antonetz and
Cefe Valenzuela.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Ruby Fontana and Robert Rivera.
STAFF PRESENT: Mike Gordon, Assistant Director for Operations,
Scott Roberts, Greens Supervisor, Roy Pickering, Sr. Foreman at
Gabe Lozano, Bruce Haddad, Red Taylor, Golf Pros, Dan Buder,
Assistant Pro.
Others in attendance, Joe Perez, Head Marshall Oso.
STAFF: Staff reported that winter overseeding was scheduled for
10/13/94 at Oso and 10/17/94 at Gabe Lozano unless weather
conditions prevent it. Claims are being filed to recover damages
to golf carts when adequate information is available. The pro-
shops are beginning to inform the cart renter to inspect the cart
before leaving the clubhouse for existing damages otherwise they
will be held accountable. Normal maintenance operations are being
performed.
CURRENT CONCERNS: Members mentioned drainage concerns on #10 and
#17 at Gabe Lozano. Tall grass was requested to be cut down on the
#10 tee box at Oso Beach. The Over 60 Association inquired why
shotgun starts were not allowed at Gabe Lozano for their
tournaments . Members inquired about the possibility of the greens
at Oso Beach getting smaller over time due to mowing practices,
particularly #4,#7 and #10 .
NEXT MEETING: The next meeting will be at Oso Beach on October 26,
1994 at 5 :00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6 :05 p.m. by
Chairman Ponder.
