SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY OMOUTTEE
MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 2, 1995
The February 2, 1995 meeting of the Senior Community Services Advisory
Committee was called to order by Elsa Ciminelli, Chairperson.
MEMBERS PRESENT: See attached roster.
fl-OFFICIO MEMBERS PRESENT: M. Medina, 0. Williams, and V. Williams.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: It was moved by J. Dunn and seconded by M. Medina
that the minutes of January 5, 1995 be approved with the correct
spelling of Adams. The motion was unanimously approved.
ATTENDANCE ROSTER: The absences of C. Arias and R. Gonzalez will remain
as recorded for the month of January.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT: Ms. Munoz gave a brief update on the following
items:
1. Personnel
a. The part-time custodian at Lindale was hired this past Monday.
b. The applicants for the clerk positions at Lindale and Zavala
will be taking the typing test this week and will be interviewed
within the next two weeks.
c. The Senior Services Supervisor position was posted last Monday
and will be closing tomorrow. We expect screening of the
application to take about two weeks and set up interviews
shortly thereafter.
d. The clerk for the RSVP position will be posted next week. '+
2. Update on Senior Centers
a. On January 16, 1995 Oveal Williams Senior Center started
operations.
b. We havenot started operations at the Zavala Senior Center due
to a delay in the construction of the parking lot. They are
now completed and have been tested. We hope to get approval
and have the facility released to us sometime next week.
Ms. Munoz also reported that staff will be submitting a request for
CDBG. Staff has recommended to submit a proposal to construct a new
facility (10,000 sq ft) on the deep southside of the City. Staff will
be reviewing the proposals submitted last year and resubmit them.
SENIOR MMUIUYlD NT PROEM UPDATE: Ms. Reue gave a brief update on their
program status with the Block Grants. Each year the program has a goal
of placing 57 slots. Just in this month 14 people have been placed in
the program.
ELDERLYNUTRITION PROGRAM UPDATE: Ms. Pollakis reported on the meal
count for the 1st quarter of the year. The Congregate Meal Program
served 34,529 meals, 840 meals short of contract. For Rome Delivered
Meals we served 15,379 meals, we went over 1,371 meals. We have a
waiting list of 27 people on the Rome Delivered Meals Program.
Ms. Pollakis also provided an update on the Cooperative Purchasing
Project. The Council of Governments will be awarding two bids, one
vendor for each. It will be for a 12 week period from March 1st through
May 31st.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. Vacancies: - Ms. Munoz reported that we have not yet received any
response on the letters that were sent out for recruitment.
B. Planning Sub-committee Update: Mrs. Ciminelli announced that the
Committee needs to become more involved in advising the staff on the
different programs, funding, and long range planning. The Committee
met and came up with some ideas. We would like propose the
following sub-committees:
1. Nutrition Program
2. Program Planning and Evaluation
3. Special Events
4. Long Range Planning
5. Support Services
Mrs. Ciminelli explained that these sub-committees could evaluate the
programs itself and it would make this a better working committee. We
want to keep our members interested and get them involved. It would
involve in changing our by-laws. It was moved by M. Medina and seconded
by 0. Williams to amend the by-laws to include the above sub-committees.
The motion was unanimously approved.
It was moved by M. Reser and seconded by M. Medina that the Planning
Sub-committee be in charge of the By-Laws Committee.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. February Manus: It was moved by E. Oliver and seconded by J. Dunn
to accept the menus for February as submitted. The motion wag
unanimously approved.
Ei-OFFICIO REPORTS: Dispensed for this month.
AMNOUNCENENTS:
A. Board Luncheon: The next luncheon is scheduled for Thursday,
February 16, 1995 at the Hilltop Senior Center at 11:30 a.m..
ADJOURNMENT:- The meeting was adjourned.
