MINUTES
SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEETING HELD JULY 1, 1993
The July 1, 1993 meeting of Senior Community Services Advisory Committee
was called to order by Elsa Ciminelli, Chairperson.
MEMBERS PRESENT: E. Abrams, Elva Alba, E. Ciminelli, D. Colin, A.
Creighton, J. Dunn, H. Fennessy, R. Garcia, G. Garza, E. Gonzalez, M.
Hays, M. Jones, S.V. McDonald, E. Oliver, and A. Ruiz.

& J.F. Walker.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: It was moved by J. Dunn and seconded by E. Oliver
that the minutes for June 3, 1993 be approved as submitted. The motion
was unanimously approved.
ATTENDANCE ROSTER: K. Gonzalez is still out on maternity leave.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
A. FACS UPDATE: Ms. Martinez reported that the benefit BBQ date has
been set for September 18, 1993 location will be Lindale Senior Center.
Still working on locating a facility to BBQ. Discussion followed.
B. CITY BUDGET UPDATE: Ms. Martinez reported that the City Council has
been dedicating their meetings to the budget. Senior Community
Services' budget has been submitted with no cuts so far.
C. MEALS ON WHEELS UPDATE: Ms. Martinez reported that the Texas
Department of Human Services has officially notified her that there has
been an error made in this Region, they have over contracted. This
means that there is a freeze on the program and we will not be able to
fulfill the entire contract. Another error made by TDHS was that they
had not realized that this program did not have a contract to provide
meals for their APS (Adult Protective Services) clients. She was
immediately faxed a copy of the contract, obtained the signatures and
returned contract to TDHS.
D. ELDERLY NUTRITION PROGRAM RENEWAL APPLICATION: Ms. Martinez
reported that she has not received the application as of yet. She asked
that the item be tabled to the September meeting.
SENIOR EMPLOYMENT PROJECT UPDATE: Ms. Reue was not able to attend the
meeting but a report was handed out to the Committee.
ELDERLY NUTRITION PROGRAM UPDATE; Ms. Pollakis gave a brief update on
the Home Delivered Meals with Texas Department on Aging program. The
enrollment on Congregate Meals is very low so we have initiated a
publicity campaign to recruit new seniors to the centers. Discussion
followed.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The attendance for D. Colin was discussed at this
time because she was not available when the item was discussed. Ms.
Colin asked that her absence for the month of June stay as is.
Ms. Martinez informed the Committee that she will be working with the
FACS Committee in setting up a mechanism where they can get corporate
donors to adopt senior centers as a whole. They will be working with
these company's for a (12) twelve month commitment to raising funds or
bring in volunteers from their company to help out at the centers.
NEW BUSINESS: It was moved by M. Medina and seconded by A. Ruiz that we
approve the July menus as submitted. The motion passed unanimously.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: No August meeting. Ms. Martinez informed the Committee
that a decision has been made on the Broadmoor position. It will be a
lateral transfer of the Kitchen Manager, Barbara Mosedale. The kitchen
manager position will be posted July 5, 1993 to hire Barbara's
replacement. Also the Community Service Officer position in Retired
Senior Volunteer Program will finally be posted July 12, 1993.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further announcements, the meeting was
adjourned.
