HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 12/02/2019Marina Advisory Committee 12/10/19 MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, December 2, 2019 Members Present: William McDowell, Donnell Laux, Mona Baen, Ron Smith, Robyn Cobb Members Absent: Richard Bell, Martha Avery, Gerry Morrow Staff Present: Gina Sanchez, Marina Superintendent; Leah Hughen, Management Aide Call to Order: Chairman McDowell called the special meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:08 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Ms. Baen and seconded by Mr. Laux to approve the minutes of the 11/11/19 special meeting; the motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: none Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Dockwalker Program Update: Ms. Traber finished the questionnaire and is in the process of acquiring pamphlets for the responsible boating kit that will be distributed. Ms. Sanchez suggested the Storm Water or Environmental Departments could possibly pay to have the City’s printshop print the pamphlets that are only available online. Ms. Traber proposed approaching the Port of Corpus Christi for funding to print the pamphlets. Ms. Traber advised a quote from Breg Environmental for the fuel pads is pending. Five members of Ms. Traber’s Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla have volunteered, and Mr. Laux is recruiting from his flotilla. Ms. Traber believes there will be 5-8 Dockwalkers by the end of February 2020. The program is on track to begin summer 2020. Elect new Chairman and Vice Chairman: Mr. Laux volunteered for the Chairman position; Ms. Cobb seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Election of Vice Chairman was tabled for the January meeting due to lack of members present. Committee/Staff Reports: Environmental and Education: Ms. Cobb advised the subcommittee will meet December 5th to go over fact sheets and condense them for the signs. Landscaping: Ms. Sanchez shared Texas A & M University Corpus Christi is hosting The Big Event, a community service event. In April students will spend a day in the Marina performing a variety of tasks. Director’s Report: Ms. Sanchez shared the next tenant event will be a potluck on January 25, 2020. The City Manager has deemed the demolition of K pier an urgent matter. The new bid amounts will go to the Type A board on December 9th and if approved will go before City Council the next day, December 10th. Mr. McDowell and Ms. Baen will term out in December, positions for an engineer, environmentalist, and at large will be open.
