HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Parks And Recreation Advisory Committee - 08/12/2020ÐÏࡱugh 11:59 p.m. on 04/08/20; Order was amended effective immediately on 04/02/20 extending the Order until 11:59 p.m. on 04/30/20. The presentation included highlights of what staff did during the Stay-at-Home Order either in their area of work or community engagement through Facebook by providing education and recreational activities via video and their participation with our Nutrition Education Service Center whether by helping in delivering meals to homebound clients or distributing meals curbside at our Community Centers. Old Business and Possible Action None New Business for Discussion and Possible Action Downtown Gateways Vision Plan – Brief overview and invitation to participate in focus group and to complete survey provided by Annika G. Yankee, Sr. City Planner, Planning Dept. This initiative is by our City Manager to improve the I-37 entrance to Corpus Christi and to the downtown area; scope expanded to include Agnes Street and Laredo Street areas to improve entrance to downtown. This project started in March 2020; first meeting held August 6, 2020 to receive community input from residents. Splash Park Update – Overview provided by Assistant Director Joseph Johnson on the three splash parks now open. First splash park opened on 05/23/20 at Lindale Park. Second splash park opened 06/05/20 at Manuel Q. Salinas Park. Third splash park opened on 06/29/20 at Bill Witt Park. All splash parks are free! Splash Parks operate May – October. Schedule for all three splash parks is Tuesday – Sunday, 8:00am to 10:00pm; closed on Monday for maintenance, except on holidays. Committee, Liaison/Staff Reports – Island Strategic Action Committee (ISAC) – no report. Watershore & Beach Advisory Committee – have not had any meetings since the COVID-19 crisis began. Expected to meet tomorrow. Jerry to have discussion with this Board on what to do with liaison position to be able to do this meeting. London & Southside Area Advisory Committee – community input complete. Presented to Council and approved during the implementation phase. Project is complete; Board no longer meets. Flour Bluff Advisory Committee – no report. Director Reports – Tracey Cantu, Interim Director Introduced herself as Interim Director to the Board and shared her goal that all efforts continue to move forward with our committees and our projects to ensure everything stays on task. Becky Perrin, Assistant Director – Waiting when our seniors and children can come back to our community centers. Joseph Johnson, Assistant Director – Discussed two completed projects. Displayed images of the completed extension of the decorative metal fence and chain link fence construction at Old Bayview Cemetery. Presented before and after pictures of the helicopter monument site refurbish at The Water’s Edge. Catching up with debris clean up and park mowing after hurricane Hanna.
