HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 10/01/2019Library Board Minutes October 1, 2019 AIN Present: Candace Hart, Nicole Carroll, Ida Hobbs, Vickie Natale, Julie Rogers and Roberta Sewell Members Absent: Alice Nixon Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director and Sylvia Sanchez, Secretary. Call to Order: Candace Hart called the meeting to order at 10:33 a.m. Approval of Minutes A motion to approve the minutes as presented was made by Nicole Carroll and seconded by Vickie Natale. Motion passed unanimously. Friends Report Roberta Sewell reported that the newsletter mailout was successful. A winter newsletter will be published but will only be placed on the Library's website. The Friends Annual meeting will be held either in November or February. In celebration of National Friends of Libraries week, which is October 20 — 26, a Cricut Training program will be hosted on October 19 at 2 p.m. at La Retama Central Library. Director's Report Interviews and selections for five Library Assistant positions are being finalized. This includes the two new positions approved by Council; one for La Retama Central and one for Harte Library. Effective as of October 1st the Harte Library hours are as follows: Monday & Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also approved by Council is a Senior Library Assistant position for the technical services department. This position will be advertised by end of the week. copy of the Library's Fall brochure was distributed, some changes and updates are still needed. Sylvia will email a copy of Te brochure once the changes are made. The Library's 1919 Hurricane photos are on display at the county courthouse as part of the 100th Anniversary exhibit. Members discussed the upcoming programs. The Career On -Line High School (CONS) students have been progressing well. Approximately three students will be graduating in November. A graduation event will be hosted at La Retama Central Library; date has not been set. Old Business Ida Hobbs distributed a draft of the Library Board Manual. Members discussed whether to include emails, addresses and phone numbers in the manual, it was decided that only board member names would be included. Mrs. Hobbs will email the final draft. Julie Rogers distributed a draft of the Library Survey for discussion. A motion was made by Ida Hobbs and seconded by Roberta Sewell to add postgraduate on question 10 and change question 12 to read Gender: Female, Male. Julie Rogers opposed. Motion passed. Candace Hart suggested moving question 12 before 10. Members discussed how the survey will be distributed. New Business A motion to excuse Alice Nixon from today's meeting was made by Roberta Sewell and seconded by Julie Rogers. Motion passed unanimously. Public Comment None. Meeting adjourned at 11:S8 a.m.
