Members Present: Alice Nixon, Nicole Carroll, Candace Hart, Ida Hobbs, Vickie Natale, and Roberta Sewell
Members Absent: Julie Rogers
Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director
Staff Absent: Sylvia Sanchez
Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM
Approval of Minutes
Vickie Natale made a motion to approve the minutes. Nicole Carroll seconded the motion. Motion passed
unanimously.
Friends Report
Roberta Sewell reported that the Friends received a $250,000 donation and would be looking into what to do
with it. She also talked about Success for Life.
Director's Report
Before Laura Garcia reported on the continuing progress of Success for Life, Alice Nixon congratulated her on
the successful and emotional graduation ceremony. To date, 11 people have graduated. Laura notified the
board that they had received a grant for an additional 15 scholarships.
Ms. Garcia handed out the new Library brochures and told us about the success of several of the recent
programs. The brochures now utilize OR codes so people can see updated event calendars.
New computers have been installed at McDonald Library. The network is still having work done to improve it
New Business
Absences will be tabled until next month when Sylvia Sanchez is back.
Old Business
The City Council still has not appointed new board members. When they do, these new members will be
asked to assess the new Library Board Orientation manual. Discussion on the manual is tabled until then.
Alice Nixon asked for comments on the revised library survey provided by Vickie Natale. After a short
discussion, Vickie will make one change. Vickie asked Laura to ask for a test only link for board members and
library staff to try the survey before it goes live to the public. There was also discussion on various ways the
survey can be advertised.
