I. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting called to order at 5:39 pm.
ll. ROLL CALL
The roll was called, and a quorum was present
III. EXCUSED ABSENCES: Lauren Williams
Larisa made a motion to excuse last month’s absence, Philippe seconded, unanimously approved. Motion
passed.
IV. ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Minutes from the March 4, 2021 meeting were distributed for review. Larisa made a motion to accept the minutes,
Philippe seconded, Lauren abstained. Motion passed.
V. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC
There was one person from the public who wished to give comments: Cliff Schlabach. Cliff want to know why
there was not a speed limit sign on Zahn Road and he would also like an update on the beach showers.
Vl. BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION/POSSIBLE ACTION
1. New Business
There was no new business for discussion.
2. Old Business
a. Packery Channel Repair
Darren reported that he is still waiting for the USACE and FEMA for updates on these repairs.
VlI. PARK AND RECREATION ACTION COMMITTEE – Howard Schauer
Howard did not attend this meeting.
VlII. ISAC Report
There was not an ISAC meeting and thus no report.
lX. BMAC Report – Cliff Schlabach
There was not a BMAC meeting and thus no report.
X. STAFF LIAISON REPORT
Darren updated the committee on the progress of moving sand – building a berm along the water, but the high
tides are still varying. Working on building lifeguard platforms, they will be built high enough that they can
withstand the tides in the Gulf.
Permit sales in 2019 were 195,552 and in 2020, 199,995.
Lifeguard stands will go out on Memorial Day. Philippe asked where the lifeguard stands will be place. Darren
reported that there will be a lifeguard stand on either side of the jetties and on either side of Bob Hall pier.
Lauren asked for an update on the rate of pay for lifeguards including an overall pay increase and creation of a
special class for returning staff. Darren has submitted that request be included in the 2021 -2022 fiscal year
budget.
