HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 01/08/2021Library Board Minutes January 8, 2021 via Webex Members Present: Alice Nixon, Kirby Tello, Vickie Natale, Candy Hart, Ida Hobbs, Julie Rogers, Nicole Carroll Members Absent: None Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:31 AM. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the December minutes was made by Ida Hobbs and seconded by Vickie Natale. Motion passed unanimously. Friends Report: Laura Garcia reported that the Friends finished revamping their financial ledgers. A virtual program for the annual Sue Stanford Memorial event is being discussed. Director's Report: Laura Garcia reported that the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) bids have come in. The bids are being reviewed carefully by Library staff and staff from the City's Purchasing Department. An RFP (Request for Proposals) for E-rate services has been prepared and is being advertised. The plan is to get a five-year service agreement, with annual renewals, in place. The Library and other City departments are preparing Capital Improvement Plans. Misty Atwood, Garcia Branch Manager, is spearheading the Library effort. Short- and long-range plans will be developed. This also provides the opportunity to start discussing services in areas such as the Island. Julie Rogers suggested researching Bookmobile services for the Island. The Success for Life – Career Online High School Graduation ceremony went very well. Six individuals received their diplomas, only three were present in person, with family members in attendance. The ceremony was made available through Zoom for those wanting to attend virtually. Old Business: Alice Nixon introduced the new format for the Board's Annual Report from the City Secretary's office. The Board decided to fine tune its statements through email exchange. The report will be submitted by its due date of January 31, 2021. Julie Rogers suggested that one of the Board's goals for the coming year be requesting a proclamation from the City honoring National Library Week. New Business: The February meeting will be virtual. The meeting adjourned at 11:24 AM.
