Members Present: Alice Nixon, Vickie Natale, Candy Hart, Julie Rogers, Nicole Carroll
Members Absent: Kirby Tello, Ida Hobbs
Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director
Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:34 AM.
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the January minutes was made by Vickie Natale and
seconded by Candy Hart. Motion passed unanimously.
Friends of the Library Report: Laura Garcia reported that the last Friends meeting discussed how to
handle the library's Summer Reading Program for children, teens, and adults. Sharon Hines should be
appointed as the next Library Board representative for the Friends of the Library.
Director's Report: Mrs. Garcia reported that the Library sent 12 staff members to the City's COVID
vaccination call center to help register citizens for the vaccination. Library staff will be used on an as-
needed basis at this call center which is only open when vaccine is available.
Mrs. Garcia had a virtual meeting with staff from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission
(TSLAC) about what to count and how to count statistics for the 2020 Annual Report to TSLAC. TSLAC
continues to work with individual libraries on their annual reports.
Mrs. Garcia also reported :
• The City's new Public Information Officer is Chelsea Torres, formerly of Channel 6 News, and will
be working with the library on more marketing.
• The Library Branches are slowing increasing in activity.
• Harrison Worchel, a former board member, died suddenly in October.
• Library board appointments and re-appointments are scheduled for the City Council meeting on
February 16.
New Business: City Proclamation for National Library Week. Julie Rogers had contacted the City
Secretary's Office to see what needed to be done. Vickie Natale had written a City Proclamation
recently and told what steps were needed to fill one out. Candy Hart looked up the recommended
proclamation from ALA. These board members agreed to work on a proclamation for the board's
approval at its March meeting.
Julie Rogers moved to commend Alice Nixon, board chair, on her leadership and hard work especially on
the board's annual report to the City Council. Candy Hart seconded the motion and it passed
unanimously. Ms. Nixon expressed her gratitude to the members of the board for all of their
contributions and support.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 AM.
