Members Present Virtually: Vickie Natale, Candy Hart, Nicole Carroll, Veronica Towns, Ida Hobbs. Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director; Stephanie Jimenez Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:34 AM. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the March minutes was made by Candy Hart and seconded by Nicole Carroll. Motion passed unanimously. Friends of the Library Report: Friends are supporting “Murder at the Library Book Club,” a service offered through Baker & Taylor. March's title was Black Widow which was checked out 71 times. Seventeen people attended the virtual author event. Vickie Natale attended the virtual events and enjoyed them. April's title is The Mystery of Mrs. Christie. The Friends are supporting CCPL's Summer Reading Program activities. Director's Report: Laura Garcia said that CCPL filed for E-Rate for internet access in time for the Grande contract which starts in July. The bids for the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system will go to City Council in early May. The renewal of the City's contract with Baker & Taylor is coming up soon. The new contract will be for $350,000 with the increase marked for more digital resources. CCPL is partnering with the local Audubon Society, Grow Local, and the Master Naturalists to offer nature programs at the different libraries. The City's Park and Recreation Department is a part of this coalition. La Retama Central Library will have programming in Blucher Park and Hopkins Library will have gardening programs on its grounds for Earth Day/Bay Day on April 17. Mrs. Garcia reported the Corpus Christi Public Libraries met the accreditation standards set by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC). The libraries are now opened 69 hours a week, an increase of 5 hours. The City met its Maintenance of Effort obligations with TSLAC. Library staff is handling the Save Our Seniors (SOS) Call Center on Fridays from 12 – 6 PM. Three to four staff members take calls to register senior citizens and homebound individuals 18 years and older for COVID vaccinations. Old Business: Alice Nixon thanked Julie Rogers and the rest of the Board for their assistance in getting the proclamation for National Library Week to the Mayor's Office in a timely manner. She reminded the Board that we are to accept the proclamation from Mayor Guajardo at 11:00 AM on April 13, at the City Council Chambers. New Business: Ms. Nixon asked Board members to consider who would like to act as Board secretary. The May Board meeting will again by in person and virtual. The meeting adjourned at 11:19 AM.
