Minutes – Minutes approved Motion – Melanie Gomez Second – Huxley Smith Action – Motion Passed 6. Public Comments – None 7. Presentation (Limited to 10 minutes) - None 8. Staff Reports for the period: a. Human Resources – Tracey Lawson reported 2 citizen requests who need assistance with setting out their trash and recycle receptacles each week. Provided their contact information to the Solid Waste department, specifically Michelle Chatman, who handles this service for the department. Working with the Solid Waste department to make sure this information is shared more and made public to citizens. b. Development Services Dept. – No updates; Michael Dice provided follow up on the grant fee waiver program. c. Engineering Services – Mai Bernal provided an update on ADA improvements on Bond street projects including Nueces Bay Boulevard and Leopard Street, Lilly/Rose intersection, Battlin Buc/Palm; etc. In total 35 ADA improvements have been completed and further information can be found on the City’s Bond Central website at www.cctexas/bondcenteral. Anthony Navarrette inquired how the City determines where the ADA accommodations/improvements are determined and how the committee can help advise on locations needed. Mai provided an in depth explanation where most are identified in controlled intersections and avoid mid crosswalk areas due to risk. Mai also shared that citizen feedback is always encouraged and requests may be submitted through the City website and/or committee members can reach out to Mai directly anytime. d. Parks and Recreation Dept. – Lisa Oliver thanked members who participated in the stakeholder meetings last month for the Parks and Rec Master Plan input meetings; online surveys will continue to be distributed to others who may have an interest in participating and providing feedback. Seasonal programming has started with Spring Break, reminded everyone that accessible beach chairs and aqua chairs are available to the public through the Beach Operations office at no cost and All-terrain chairs are available at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve. Provided staff updates within the Parks and Recreation department. Shared Park Operations improvements at Salinas Park and Splash pads. e. CCPD Parking Control – Kris Henigman not present but provided monthly reporting for January and February; Alex Gonzalez is no longer with the City and Kris is working on identifying a replacement to participate on the committee. Open discussion regarding upcoming parking requirements and parking lot markings. 9. Subcommittee Reports: a. Engineering Subcommittee (ENG) – No updates b. Public Service Announcement Subcommittee (PSA) – PSA will be placed on City website; subcommittee will meet soon to discuss new ideas. Voting PSA’s were mentioned as an idea to consider. c. Accessible Recreation Playgrounds Subcommittee (ARP) – No updates d. Community Volunteer Involvement Subcommittee (CVI) – No updates but opportunity to discuss future activities may be possible due to the Governor’s new orders regarding public gatherings. Anthony Navarrette recommended members start thinking of ideas on how to best organize in working with Driscoll Hospital Toy Drive efforts. 10. Chairperson’s Report: a. Round Table Discussion – i. Nominations and voting on Officer Positions: Melanie Gomez nominated for Secretary; Anthony Navarrette nominated for Chairperson; Vanessa Nisbet nominated for Vice Chairperson. ii. Review applications to fill board vacancies – Discussed the 12 applications received to fill the 3 vacancies on the board. Recommended Dr. Jennifer Scott, Jennifer Gracia and Dirk Hillard. Jennifer Aleman was recommended as a 4th alternate. iii. Discuss options to increase awareness of COVID vaccination resources – Anthony Navarrette asked for any ideas to help get vaccination information to citizens outside of social media outlets and City website. A text messaging system similar to a reverse alert was shared as an idea. Lisa Oliver also recommended signing up to the City’s news releases for upcoming vaccination clinic options. iv. Review subcommittee assignments and reassign committee members to subcommittees, as needed – Anthony Navarrette recommended holding off on this until the next couple of meetings after new board members are sworn in. 11.
