Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director; Stephanie Jimenez
Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:30 AM. Ms. Nixon announced that she had
accepted Candace Hart's resignation from the Corpus Christi Public Libraries Board.
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the March minutes was made by Vickie Natale and seconded
by Nicole Carroll. Motion passed unanimously.
Friends of the Library Report: Sharron Hines reported that the Friends of the Library were sponsoring
drive-in movies at the libraries. They also sponsored a poetry reading by Sister Lou Ella Hickman who
read from her latest collection she: robed and wordless. The Friends' next event will be a reception for
unpublished authors at La Retama Library on May 25. The Friends are also wor king with the Youth
Librarians to help support Summer Reading Program activities.
Director's Report: Laura Garcia reported that literary programs were “hybrid” programs, being both in -
person and virtual. Attendance at The Murder Mystery Book Club, Sister Hickman's poetry reading, and
other programs are on the increase. Library staff plans to do more hybrid programming.
The roof at La Retama Central Library is finished and did not leak during the heavy rains of the week
before. The carpeting was removed from the stairs and replaced with vinyl planking. Most of the
flooring on the first floor has been replaced with vinyl planking. The Teen Area and the Makers' Space
will get new flooring next.
Several of the crafting groups are beginning to meet in person at the libraries again. There is a crochet
group meeting at La Retama and a craft group meeting at Harte.
The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) package is scheduled to go before City Council on May 18.
New Business: Ms. Nixon announced that the Board will make the Mayor's Proclamation of National
Library Week an annual occurrence. She also said that the Library Board Orientation packet needs some
revising. The Board will look at those revisions in future meetings.
