HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Landmark Commission - 04/22/2021MINUTES LANDMARK COMMISSION MEETING – 4:30 pm CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI – Via WebEx www.cctexas.com/cctv April 22, 2021 USTAFF: Nina Nixon-Mendez, Assistant Director of Development Services, Historic Preservation Officer Joann Salinas, Management Assistant Craig Garrison, City Planner I. Call to Order/Roll Call The meeting was called to order and a quorum was established with Commissioner Wilson and Commissioner Wanzer absent II. Approval of Absences from February 25, 2021 Meeting: Veronica Wilson A motion was made by Commissioner Dees to approve the absence listed above. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Brown and the motion passed. III. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. IV. Annual Preservation Award Nominations Craig Garrison, City Planner presented the following nominations: 1) For an Organization: Corpus Christi Downtown Management District - Main Street Program. 2) For a Place: Nueces Brewery at 401 South Water Street Commissioner Dees made a motion to approve the nominations. The motion was seconded by Commissioner De La Garza and the motion passed. Nina Nixon-Mendez, Assistant Director/Historic Preservation Officer, stated Staff would like to provide plaques, prepare a letter of award, and potential acknowledgement at the May 27, 2021, Landmark Commission meeting. Staff will provide awards via WebEx invitations and verbal accolades to awardees. V. Historic Preservation Officer’s Report Ms. Nixon-Mendez stated there was a community meeting related to the Historic Preservation Plan update and the consultant is currently working on developing a draft of the Plan. There will be another community meeting in June while working in scheduling to ensure there are no conflicts with Covid briefings. With the month of May approaching as “Preservation Month”, Chair Riser-Robbins inquired if there are any additional plans for honoring this month. Ms. Nixon-Mendez informed the Commission that acknowledgment is customarily done through the annual award ceremony. Ms. Nixon-Mendez stated she will be looking into a proclamation and scheduling with the Mayor’s office. VI. Future Agenda Items For the May/June meetings, Commissioners asked for updates on The Ropes House (Steamboat) and Old Bay View Cemetery. Craig Garrison, City Planner, stated Staff is currently working on a report for Old Bay View Cemetery. He informed the Commission Staff is in communication with The Parks and Recreation Department concerning The Ropes House (Steamboat). VII.
