Snouffer Yvonne Hinojosa Terry Mills Kate Haltom Commissioners Absent Errol Bummerl :in E:1ida Gonzales 411, Adelaide Marlatrt Gene Ward The regular monthly meeting was called to order at 5 p.m. by Commissioner Paul York, Chairperson. The roll call was taken and a quorum was present to conduct a legally constituted meeting. APPROVAL_OF_THE_MINUTES It was moved and seconded the Minutes of November 8, 1990 he approved as mailed.. The motion passed unanimously.. CHAIRPERSON S_COMMENTS Commissioner- Paul York,, Chairperson commented that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Conference went very well . Commissioner York also complimented Mrs. Harrell and the staff for doing such a great. job. Chairperson York reported to Commission members on the cancellation of Commission meetings in November and December.. HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MINUTES February 7,1991 PAGE 2 CHAIRPERSON'S COMMENTS continued Chairperson York informed Commissioners he has a reserved table at the National Conference of Christians and Jews Banquet and if any Commissioner is interested in attending as his guest, please call him. The Brotherhood Awards Banquet will be held 6:30 p.m. on February 26 at the Wyndham Hotel . PUBLIC INTRODUCTION AND REMARKS Director Dik Johnson from the Mayor' s Committee for the Handicap gave a report on the Americans with Disabilities Act. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Jacquelyn Harrell discussed the December 1990 and the January 1991 monthly report as distributed to the Commissioners. Ms. Harrell reported most of January was spent working on the Equal Employment Opportunity Conference. The Commissioners reported the Conference was excellent. Mrs. Harrell reported Commissioner participation in the Conference was very helpful . Commissioners McGurn, Lenken, Haltom, and Gonzales were recognized for their involvement. Chairperson York and Co-Chairperson Summerlin presided at the Conference. Jacquelyn Harrell gave an overview of the Equal Employment Opportunity Conference evaluations. She explained the ratings were between 5 and 9 out of a possible 10. Comments indicated registrants want more training of the type received at the Conference. REPORTS_FROM_GOAL_.,COMMITTEES No reports were given. OLD York stressed to the Commission the importance of attending an intake session in the Human Relations Department to become familiar with the process. Commissioner York reported training for Commissioners has been Lapproved by the City Manager. I HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION MEETING FEBRUARY 7, 1991 PAGE 3 4110 OLD_BUSINESS continued For maximum workshop participation, Ms. Harrell reported we need feedback from Commissioners in order to set exact dates. She reported all day Friday and Saturday March 1 and 2 are tentative dates at this time. We will check with all Commissioners to confirm if these dates are satisfactory. Mia. Harrell reported we will be receiving both Commission and staff training March 1 and 2. Mr. York stressed it its very important for Commissioners to attend the training. Mr. York stated we will notify Commissioners as to what date and time as soon as it is scheduled. NEW_BUSINESS Mrs. Harrell reported that the new Workshari ng Agreement with EEOC now provides $450 per case for 1991 - 1992, up from $400 per case. She reported a larger appropriation to EEOC from Congress was made in order to accomplish this. Ms. Harrell reported the EFOC/FEPA Conference will be held March 11 to 14. She reported it is a required Conference for the FETA Director to attend. The Conference will be held in Washington D. C. Commissioner Elizabeth Guthrie stated she is interested in 41, attending and will pay her expenses. Commissioner Jimmie McGurn reported February 24 is Race Relations Day at Saint Matthews Baptist Church. First Baptist Church, Ocean Drive will be worshipping with them. All Commissioners are invited to attend. TRAINING SESSION OR TOPIC The sexual harassment video will be rescheduled for the next meeting.
