Bourke, Jr. Fernando Ortiz The regular annthly meeting was called to order at 5:00 - p.m. by Chair, Kate Haltom. The roll call was taken and a quorum was present to conduct a legally constituted ueetiny. APPROVAL OF MINU."ES It was moved and seconded that the Minutes of March 19, 1992 be approved as read. PUBLIC INTROWC ION AND REMARKS Ron Hudson stated to Commissioners his protest en the Human Relations Commission's Public Notice of meeting. He questioned why the public notice meeting did not publish the exact agenda. Jacquelyn Harrell, Director of Human Relations, informed Mr. Hudson a previously discussed topic on Commission training is the only new business. Therefore, this is a legal m=eting, as we are not required to be exact according to legal counsel. OLD BUSINESS Ordinance Committee Report - Sarah Guidry No report Martin Luther King Birthday followup - Kate Haltom Cammtissioner Haltom read a letter frau Juan Garza, City Manager, stating the current policy now in effect on floating holidays for City jarsonnel. It will be an employee's choice to celebrate Martin Luther King's Birthday if they choose to do so. Ethics Committee Jacquelyn Harrell stated to Commissioners several corrections have teen made by Sarah Guidry on the Ethics Resolution as previously authorized by the Conrnission. The revised resolution was distributed. HUMAN RELATIONS OCM4ISSICN MINUTES PAGE 2 Nil BUSINESS Camaissioner Iialtom talked to Commissioners about the up-coming training session. The best time to hold that training was discussed. CaLlaissioners made a notion and it was seconded, they will meet Thursday, April 9, 1992 at 5:00 p.m. Notice will be mailed out to each Commissioner. The place of training for the session will be in the Ccradttee Room at City Hall. IIelen Gurley will be the trainer. An Austin Carenissioner, Jim Hill, will also iarticipate. Director's Report. Jacquelyn Harrell talked briefly about the Orlando, Florida Policy Conference with Equal Deployment Opportunity Commission. March 21-27, 1992. Discussion at the conference focused on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ms. Harrell also discussed the ADA Conference which will be sponsored by the Human Relations °aiunission. Co-sponsors for the conference are the National Conference of Christians and Jews, Corpus Christi Chapter, the Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities, Gall Business Development Center, and the Corpus Christi Chamber of Caa erce. The ADA Conference will be held Friday, April 24, 1992 frau 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bayfront Convention 411/ Center. Ms. Harrell told Commissioners the luncheon speaker will be Jim Troy, Equal Enp1o}ment Opportunity Coamussion, Operations Director, Washington, D.C. The numhr of people anticipated is frau 100 to 125. The program was discussed with Cannissioners. Human Relations Department Revenue Jacquelyn Harrell spoke hriefly to the Commission on revenue the Hmmman Relations Department received from Dual Employment Opportunity Commission. Contract with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is for 100 cases and 56 intakes have already been processed. The Commission was told as of April 2, 1992, we have received a $22,500 payment for October 1 thru March 31 , 1992. Approximately $60,000 in revenue is anticipated. Ms. Barrell also stated the City depends on this revenue for cash flow. AUJCITTEMNT There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m Chair Date
