HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Library Board - 06/01/2021Library Board Minutes June 1, 2021 Members Present: Alice Nixon, Sharon Hines, Veronica Towns Members Present Virtually: Nicole Carroll, Ida Hobbs, Dora Wilburn Absent: Julie Rogers, Vickie Natale Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director; Stephanie Juarez; Patricia Herrera Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the May minutes was made by Sharron Hines and seconded by Nicole Carroll. Motion passed unanimously. Friends of the Library Report: Sharron Hines reported that the last Friends' meeting had a speaker from Wal-Mart who is interested in being active in the Friends after her retirement. Patricia Herrera added that the Friends are funding the Summer Reading Program (SRP). SRP runs through June 7 until mid-July and will have in-person/virtual programs as well as indoor and outdoor programs. Library Director's Report: • Laura Garcia gave the Board an update on the RFID project which is moving forward. Ms. Garcia hopes to start putting RFID tags in books in August at the McDonald Branch Library. • The roof at Harte Library is being replaced. • Neyland Library closed for a long weekend to replace the countertops. • A fire sprinkler system will be installed at Hopkins Library within the next few months. • The freight elevator at La Retama Library is being modernized, project expected to begin by August. • There were thirteen children’s' programs in May with an attendance of 134. Seven children were signed up for 1,000 Books. • The libraries are getting technology, equipment, and procedures in place to begin wireless printing. The service will be promoted to the public when all is ready. New Business: Alice Nixon told the Board that a Vice Chair would be nominated at the July Board meeting since Candy Hart had resigned her position on the Board. Excused Absences: Nicole Carroll moved that Julie Rogers' and Vickie Natale's absences from the meeting be excused. Dora Wilburn seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 11:00 AM.
