Summary of Minutes for December 5, 2013
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:11 p.m.

Public Comments was opened; no comments made.
5. PRESENTATIONS
A. EEOC Case Update by Charlene Kaplan, Human Relations Compliance Officer
Mrs. Kaplan gave brief verbal case update information regarding number of
complainants, formal charges, differed cases and number of case closures for the
month of November. Mrs. Kaplan discussed the Special Operating Procedures of
formalizing a charge she then mentioned the Department currently has a difficult case
that may require the assistance of the Commission at a later date to request a
subpoena. Questions and comments ensued by numerous Commissioners.
6. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT
a. 50th Anniversary Update
Mrs. Wilson stated there was no current update as she has been preoccupied with
putting together the 2nd Annual Retreat.
b. 2nd Annual Retreat Update
Mrs. Wilson stated the she is aiming to have the event on 1/18/14, Saturday morning.
She then mentioned she is currently working out the logistics between the City and RTA
Mr. Gamboa then announced his resignation as the Chairperson and Commissioner of
the Human Relations Commission. Mr. Gamboa stated this would the last meeting he
would be attending.
7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
a. Housing Subcommittee — No Report
b. Committee for Persons with Disabilities
Committee Chairperson David Ramos gave a brief update regarding the 12/4/13
regular meeting; announcement of Richard Balli a new Committee member,
Presentations, Subcommittee Reports. Brief discussion ensued regarding ADA
compliance for the Home Owner Association process, Mrs. Wilson stated as the
topic was not placed on the agenda it was unable to be discussed. Commissioners
agreed to place the request for further information on item 9, identify items to be
placed on next agenda.
c. Education Subcommittee — Update on School Presentations
Nothing was reported as Mrs. Cooper was not present. Brief discussion ensued
between commissioners and staff.
d. Disparity Subcommittee — No Report
e. Goals Subcommittee— No Report
f. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee — Update
Mrs. Wilson stated there was no recent information to report.
8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Mrs. Wilson provided and discussed her November 2013 Monthly Performance Report to
commissioners. Questions and comments ensued by numerous Commissioners.
