Summary of Minutes for November 3, 2011
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Ramiro Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

B. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES
MOTION Motion to excuse Pastor Derick Reaves, and Toni Davis for the November 3, 2011 meeting
made by Denise Villagran and seconded by Elias Valverde. Motion passed.
2. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 10106111
MOTION Motion to approve the October 6, 2011 meeting minutes made by Kathleen C000per and
seconded by Margi Myers. Motion passed.

5. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT
A. Commissioners Vacancy
Chairman Gamboa stated that Commissioner Adler's last meeting will be on December
1a) Chairman Gamboa asked Commissioners Robert Adler, Margie Myers, and
Kathleen Cooper to be on the subcommittee to select a replacement for the vacancy of
Mr. Adler. The subcommittee will be in contact with Sylvia Wilson to designate a date to
meet.

A. Commissioners Vacancy
Patsy Garcia, Human Relations added into record that this is the Subcommittee to
make recommendations for the vacancy to replace Mr. Adler who is vacating his post
as of January 1st.
Mr. Gamboa expressed how important attendance is for the Committee to have a
quorum.
Sylvia Wilson, Human Relations stated that a request for an excused absence does not
go unacknowledged. Mrs. Wilson also suggested that Commissioners should contact
Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Garcia simultaneously by either phone or via e-mail; if e-mail is
preferred then e-mail at least a week before the next meeting to Mrs. Garcia and copy
Mrs. Wilson also, follow up with a phone call to let them know you have sent an e-mail.
If you need to leave a message make sure you leave a phone number where you can
be contacted. Mrs. Wilson or Mrs. Garcia will return the phone call and you will be
asked if you have requested an excused absence just for verification.
6. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS
A. Housing Subcommittee— No Report
B. Committee for Persons With Disabilities — Meeting of 11102111
Sylvia Wilson reported that Judy Telge and Daren Bates gave a follow up Status
Report on Employment Alliance for People with Disabilities.
▪ A big thanks to everyone whom attended the proclamation.
▪ There was attendance from different advocacy groups, the event had more than
300 people attend, and they had 40 venders present.
• A great representation was given.
▪ Mary Saenz gave a report on the Walk 'n Roll event that had taken place before
the job fair. The Walk 'n Roll event was very successful.
• Mary Saenz received a Governor's Award for the program and the efforts to
bring more awareness for people with disabilities.
C. Education Subcommittee— Update
Janet Zuniga reported she e-mailed Texas A & M and Kathleen Cooper called
Texas A & M to see if presentation can be presented on November 16th or 17th.
D. Disparity Subcommittee— No Report

A. Department Monthly Performance Report Review
Sylvia Wilson provided the Commissioners with copies of the October 2011 Monthly
Performance Report. Highlights were shared with the Commissioners.

Department Update- New ADA Compliance Officer
Mrs. Wilson reported Patsy Garcia will be the New ADA Compliance Officer for the
department.
