CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Gamboa called the meeting to order at 5:08 p.m. A. Gamboa Edna Arredondo Almira Flores Corey Elizondo Kyle James 2. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES MOTION Absences for Edna Arredondo, Corey Elizondo and Kyle James for the 11/7/13 and Alice Aparicio-Bussey and David Ramos for the 10/3/13 monthly meeting. Motion — Pastor Derrick Reaves Second — Mickey Kramer Motion Pass 3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 1013113 MOTION Ms. Aparicio requested to the minutes be amended to reflect the following information: Item 2: Request for Excused Absences of 9/5/1310/3/13. Motion to accept the minutes as amended— Mikey Kramer Second— Corey Elizondo Motion Passed. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS (LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES) Public Comments was opened; no comments made. 5. PRESENTATIONS No presentation. 6. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT a. 50th Anniversary Update Vice-Chairperson Cooper stated Commissioner Contreras would discuss under Item 7 b. 2nd Annual Retreat Update Mrs. Wilson stated the Committee for Persons with Disabilities (CFPWD) and the RTA Committee on accessible Transportation (RCAT) agreed to attend. Mrs. Wilson the stated the retreat would be form 9a.m. -12 noon, RTA agreed to sponsor the retreat, about 50 individuals are expected to attend. Commissioner Kramer agreed to look into a possible location to host the retreat. 7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS a. Housing Subcommittee— No Report b. Committee for Persons with Disabilities Committee Chairperson David Ramos gave a brief update regarding the 11/6/13 regular meeting such as; the recommendation to City Council to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Sabrina Ramirez, agreement to participate in the 2nd Annual Retreat, Subcommittee Reports. Mrs. Cooper then stated she is still waiting to hear back from the schools for further information. c. Education Subcommittee— Update on School Presentations Vice-Chairperson stated she emailed a few of the surrounding Independent School Districts including CCISD regarding the Youth @ Work presentation that is to be conducted by the Youth Commissioners. Mrs. Wilson interjected, stating the South Texas Diversity Council has contacted her to provide the names and contact information of local schools to see if any female middle school students would be interested taking part of a women in leader mentoring program. Mrs. Wilson then explained further information regarding the mentoring program and stated she would update the Commission on further information. d. Disparity Subcommittee— No Report e. Goals Subcommittee— No Report f. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee— Update Commissioner Contreras stated the 50th Anniversary would occur between January and March 2014. She then stated the subcommittee discussed items such as; a logo that would represent the commission, flyers and a possible continental breakfast. Mrs. Contreras also mentioned she and Mrs. Wilson met with Carlos Lopez the owner of KTMV Studios for broadcasting of the logo. As for the date/time of the event, that was still being discussed by subcommittee members. 8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Mrs. Wilson provided and discussed her October 2013 Monthly Performance Report to commissioners. (A copy of the report is attached at the end of the minutes) 9. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA No requests were made by Commissioners. Mrs. Wilson stated the Commission would be provided with further information regarding the 2nd Annual Retreat and the 50th Anniversary event.
