CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Joel Mumphord stated Chairperson Gamboa contacted him prior to the meeting and requested he conduct the meeting. Commissioner Mumphord called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. A. ROLL CALL Present Commissioners: Carlos Aguinaga Joel Mumphord Alice Aparicio-Bussey Edna Arredondo Pastor Derrick Reaves Corey Elizondo Almira Flores Elias Valverde Kyle James Toni Davis Jaimee Contreras Faith Meza Mickey Kramer Present Staff: Sylvia Wilson (Human Relation) Christina Aparicio (Human Relations) Absent Commissioners: Ramiro Gamboa Kathleen Cooper 2. REQUESTS FOR EXCUSED ABSENCES MOTION Ramiro Gamboa and Kathleen Cooper for the 9/5/13 monthly meeting. Motion— Mickey Kramer Second—Toni Davis Motion Pass 3. APPROVAL OF REGULAR MEETING MINUTES OF 8/1/13 MOTION First Amendment: Commissioner Almira Flores requested the minutes be amended to reflect the following information; Item 3: Carlos Aguinaga, Joel Mumphord and Jaimee Contreras for the 8/3/13 8/1/13 regular monthly meeting. Second Amendment: Commissioner Almira Flores requested the minutes be amended to reflect the following information; Item 6: Housing Subcommittee- Update on Current Housing Trends — by--Almka—Flares Alice Aparicio- Bussey. The forgoing motion was passed and approved in Unisom by the present Commissioners. 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS(LIMITED TO 3 MINUTES} Public Comments was opened; no comments made. 5. PRESENTATIONS a. ADA Concerns on Mansheim Boulevard / Sunnybrook Road — by Corey Elizondo, CCHRC Youth Youth Commissioner Elizondo stated he didn't have any photos to show, however, he did still want to discuss the issues that currently exist regarding lack of sidewalks for not only individuals with disabilities but all pedestrians that are forced to walk on the street or in gutters. Further concerns were expressed by Mr. Elizondo. Mr. Elizondo also updated the commission on a public comment he made to the Committee for Persons with Disabilities on 8/7/13. Further discussion ensued. Page 1 of 2 6. CHAIRPERSON'S REPORT a. 2nd Annual Retreat Update Mrs. Wilson stated the RTA has agreed to sponsor the event as they did last year. Mrs. Wilson then stated the chairpersons of the three entities; Corpus Christi Human Relations Commission, Committee for Persons with Disabilities and the RTA Committee on Accessible Transportation were to discuss their interest of the event to their members in hopes of attending. Mrs. Wilson stated the expected number of attendees is estimated to be about 30-50 individuals which may be too many for the RTA Training Room. She then stated she will check if the Del Mar Economic Center would be available for a Saturday no sooner than October. Further discussion ensued. 7. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS a. Housing Subcommittee— No Report b. Committee for Persons with Disabilities Committee Chairperson David Ramos gave a brief update regarding the 9/4/13 regular meeting such as; public comments, presentations, staff reports and announcement of a recent committee member's resignation. c. Education Subcommittee—No Report Commissioner Mumphord stated Youth Commissioner Faith Meza had some information she would like to share. Youth Commissioner Meza stated she spoke to her Social Worker at Miller High School and the Social Worker was very interested in having the Educational Subcommittee give the Youth @ Work presentation. Ms. Meza stated the Social Worker requested the CCHRC present her with a couple of dates to see what day would be best for the Engineering Subcommittee to make their presentation. Mrs. Wilson suggested Youth Commissioner Meza get with the other commissioners who are apart of the Educational Subcommittee to discuss dates. Further discussion ensued. d. Disparity Subcommittee— No Report e. Goals Subcommittee— No Report f. 50th Anniversary Subcommittee— Update Ms. Wilson stated due to her being out of town at an EEOC Training Conference as well as unforeseen circumstances the subcommittee has not been able to meet. Mrs. Wilson informed the committee she was currently working on a Proclamation to be presented to the Commission by the Mayor and a room at the Del Mar Economic Center has already been reserved and she is also waiting to hear back on her request of various guest speakers as no confirmations have been made. Further discussion ensued. 8. HUMAN RELATIONS ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Mrs. Wilson gave a verbal report on the August 2013 Monthly Performance Report with highlights of Division activity. Brief questions and comments were made by various Commissioners. 9.
