SPECIAL DISCUSSION / POSSIBLE ACTION
Annual Board Report Due
Shelly reported that the Annual Boards and Commis sions Report is due to the City Manager’s office on
January 31, 2021. She explained to the group that t his new report style offers greater input from the
committee chair and allows the commission to submit goals and objectives from which yearly
measurements can be made. It is a shorter report and gets to the point of the commissions’ business.
Both Laura Petican and Jim Moore developed the report with guidance from Shelly.
Sub-Committee for ACC Sponsored Events
Jim Moore asked for volunteers to coordinate the proposed ACC cultural event for this Spring. Sharon
Sedwick, Dr. Abu, and Wade Echols volunteered. Jim will send out an appointment for the team to meet
on Webex. The commission discussed a possible date of May 15, 2021. Jim said he could get a trio from
the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra to play. Laura Pet ican said she would work with TAMUCC
sculpture department about possibly getting students to display their work.
Luis Jimenez Sculpture Relocation
Shelly updated the group on the plan to relocate the Luis Jimenez sculpture. Darryl Meadows, American
Bank Center Operations Director, was present at the meeting. The commission asked him if the sculpture
could move inside the building after renovations . Mr. Meadows explained that it was too large and would
take up too much state real estate t hat could be used by patrons. The commission dec ided to continue
this discussion at the February next meeting.
Moroles Sculpture Relocation
Shelly reported to the group that she had drafted and sent a letter to Ken Rosier, Art Chair at Del Mar
College formally requesting relocating the Jesus Moroles sculpture, Texas Stele to th eir fine art campus.
Our next steps will be to write up an MOU through the city legal Department with Del Mar, then put out for
bids for an art mover. Shelly will contact the City Managers office about the plan.
Star Volunteer Awards
Shelly reported that the Star Award nomination call letters had gone out through email on Monday. The
deadline for submissions is March 15.
Selena Memorial Repair
Shelly reported that the repair to the Selena Memorial base was completed. Three pink granite ties were
replaced and some regrouting around other tiles was done. The committee discussed completely
replacing the base of the memorial. That would be a major project that the ACC should plan for in t he next
5 years.
