HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Marina Advisory Committee - 10/04/2021Marina Advisory Committee 10/12/201 MINUTES Regular Meeting Marina Advisory Committee Monday, October 4, 2021 Members Present: Rick Bell, Charles Pendlyshok, John Murray, Don Dunlap, Robert Kelley Members Absent: Alyssa Mason, Margareta Fratila Staff Present: Jonathan Atwood, Marina Manager; Andrea Gardner, Assistant City Manager; Leah Hughen, Management Assistant Call to Order: Vice Chairman Pendlyshok called the regular meeting of the Marina Advisory Committee to order at 5:39 p.m. Action on Minutes: The motion was made by Mr. Bell and seconded by Mr. Kelley to approve the minutes of the 11/2/20 regular meeting; the motion passed unanimously. Presentations and/or Public Comment: n/a Discussion Items and Possible Action Thereto: Comment from Mayor Paulette Guajardo: Mayor Guajardo emphasized her passion for reimagining what the marina can be and the importance of developing a masterplan that connects with downtown. The Marina Advisory Board will play a large role in this initiative. Introduction of New Committee Members: New committee members Mr. Dunlap, Mr. Murray, and Mr. Kelley introduced themselves. Vote for Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman: Mr. Bell volunteered for Chairman position and Mr. Pendylshok volunteered for the Vice Chairman position, the motion was made by Mr. Dunlap and seconded by Mr. Kelley, the motion passed unanimously. Illuminated Boat Parade: Mr. Atwood advised the Downtown Management District is coordinating the Illuminated Boat Parade, taking place December 4th. A promotion is being put together to draw boaters from Padre Island and Port Aransas to participate. The Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife will participate in the parade. Committee/Staff Reports: n/a Director’s Report: Mr. Atwood reported $20 million dollars has been allocated for the demolition and reconstruction of piers L, A, B, C, and D, as well as dredging in those areas. The bid will go out in December or early January with construction to begin approximately summer 2022. The Downtown Management District donated trashcans and 8 benches to the Marina. Two new full time dockhand positions and a vacant night guard position are posted. Marina occupancy is up 5% since September 2020, with a goal of 75% occupancy by the end of 2022. Slip rates will increase due to the reconstruction of the piers and to bring the marina up to date with surrounding marinas. Mr. Atwood advised we are looking for a more user friendly modern software. Ms. Gardner and Mr. Atwood will take marina master plan and 5- year dredging plan to City Manager. Identify Items to be placed on Next Agenda: Insurance requirements, Committees, Marina dredging, Marina demographics, Update from Mayor on cruise lines and dredging Confirmation for Next Meeting: Monday, November 1, 2021 Adjournment: As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
