Members Present: Alice Nixon, Sharron Hines, Dora Wilburn, Nicole Carroll, Ida Hobbs, Vickie Natale,

Staff Present: Laura Garcia, Library Director
Call to Order: Alice Nixon called the meeting to order at 10:30AM.
Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the September minutes was made by Vickie Natale and
seconded by Ida Hobbs. The motion passed unanimously.
Friends of the Library Report: Sharron Hines reported that the quarterly schedule for Corpus Christi
Public Libraries is available. On November 20, the Friends are sponsoring a program with Debra Young
Hatch, author of Giraffes in My Closet. The Friends are also working on their newsletter and renewal
appeal.
Director's Report:
• La Retama Central Library has been approved as a Family Search affiliate library. There will be
two computer stations dedicated to Family Search Library in Local History.
• The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging and encoding of materials has been finished
at McDonald Library. Hopkins has started the process of tagging and encoding as has Harte and
Garcia. Mrs. Garcia described the process of tagging and encoding library material. She said that
CCPL's goal is to be finished with the entire project by Spring 2022. The Friends of the Library
have donated $71,695 towards the RFID project, of that amount $41,088 will be used to
purchase six self-checkout stations, each library will get one station for the children’s area.
• Non-essential City departments will be closed from December 24, 2021, to January 3, 2022,
including all library locations.
• Effective December 1, CCPL will be implementing automatic renewals. Items that are not on
hold (on a waiting list) will automatically renew up to four times, each renewal period will be for
14 days. After the last renewal there will be a 7-day grace period before items are declared lost
and lost fines are assessed. If the item is returned within 30 days of being declared lost the
patron will be assessed overdue fees. Lost fines will also incur a $5 processing fee
• CCPL plans to participate in Voices of South Texas at Old Bayview Cemetery on November 6 with
its Louis de Planque exhibit.
• The Hopkins Library fire suppression project is at a standstill as of this meeting.

Sharron Hines moved that the absence of Veronica Towns be excused. Nicole Carroll seconded the
motion and it passed unanimously.
